Throttling a 6800 Video Card Fan?

Hello,
I just installed a Leadtek Geforce 6800LE A400LE video card in my computer and it is much louder than my previous video card, by far the loudest thing in my computer. The fan changes speeds on its own sometimes but remains pretty loud. I was wondering if there is any software which might be able to throttle down the fan speed when it's not doing anything intensive? My CPU fan has this feature in the bios and I would like to do the same thing with the video card fan if possible.

Leadtek may come with its own utility. Otherwise, I don't think there is. I know you can use ATI Tool on ATI cards for fan control. You may be able to use it for nvidia too.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately ATI Tool doesn't do much besides artifact checking for an NVidia card. I think I will just look for a monitor extension cable and put the computer in a closet to reduce the noise.

A note to others, I just found a program called Expertool (designed for a different company video card) that can regulate the fan down to 50% in 2D mode. I think I will still stick to putting it in a closet though.

Why not just replace the stock cooler to deal with the noise and increase cooling?

I have an XFX card and by reducing the fan level to 80% using EXPERTool v3.29, I can no longer hear it. At that point other fans become louder than my graphics card.

It seems that the video card fan wasn't so loud after all. I removed the card and the computer was still loud. I think the CPU fan somehow has become much louder than it used to be and I thought it was the video card.

Just in case someone else Googles their way to this thread looking for an answer... RivaTuner is a free utility that allows you to (very easily) control the fan speeds of your NVIDIA video card, and many other things. RivaTuner also has a "hardware monitor" feature that lets you look at your GPU stats, the fan speed, and so on.
