ti 4200 o/c

I got my Abit Siluro ti4200-8x 64mb a while back and deicided to overclock it....

i tested my overclocks in the ut2k4 demo, since its a pretty graphics intense game....weird things happened

Stock:
Core: 250
Mem: 500

Highest overclock:
Core:272
Mem: 612

When i go ANY higher on the core it locks up periodically, and even at 612 on mem i still have 0 artifacts....

would a better GPU cooler get me a higher core overclock??

Yes a better cooler would help you overclock the core, I had a MSI Ti4200 which has a great cooler and I could overclock upto Ti4600 speeds. Since the first day I owned my Ti4200 it was overclocked to 300/600 and ran like that for over a year with no problems.

I wouldn't reccomend installing an aftermarked HSF on a videocard; it's not as simple as slapping a HSF on a CPU. First you have to mash the old HSF off the card, risking damage to it, then you have to uber-glue the new HSF onto the core, while at the same time making sure that your new uber hotrod videocard will still fit inside your computer where it needs to be.

I installed this insane copper HSF that was designed for rackmount server cases on my R8500 retail card, and it only gave me maybe 10mhz more on the core. In retrospect it wasn't worth the effort. Stick to the stock cooling, dood.

New GPU cooler or even some good ASIII (don't know what the latest is called) will help.

However, I don't think your going to get much more of an increase and see the results in newer games. Other factors come to play like case cooling, air to the card, cards next too it, etc.

cards have their limits and a card such as the ti4200 can hit its limit on stock cooling. you can try slapping on a aftermarket cooler, but in the end, i will be very supprised if your core OC increases by 25mhz. another 10mhz on the core is probably the most, like sickbeast said. don't bother...
