That's the thing it will raise my insurance which I can't take because I didn't do anything wrong! If it was just a parking ticket or something it isn't that big of a deal.

Do some research, read at some sport bike forums and find members from you area..sport bike riders usually are keen on what lawyers are good or not.

Seeing as he posted at the same time as me I didn't read his post until just now but his description of the events is almost exactly the image I had in my mind when reading the original post. Face the facts....nobody likes the little rice rocket craze except the idiots who drive them. Bad taste is bad taste and from talking to cops they HATE them with a passion so if you give them any cause you are going to get a ticket. He wasn't talking about your Galant anyway so lighten up, that is of course unless it has a nice big wing and a coffee can out back.

sounds to me like the best you can do is fight it and hope for the best. I don't understand why you "floored it," or why you would have a fart box on your car anyway (since we all know that the muffler has as much potential to increase performance as an R sticker)... but hey, you're dealing with the consequences (however unfair they are) of choices you made....

sorry to hear, gl man

The thing is I wanted to get my exhaust changed back to a stock one but I have no money. I didn't put the exhaust on there in the first place the person I bought it from did.

And what do your witnesses have to say about this?

I don't have a witness... I was alone in the car.

LOL, i think that was his point in saying that. You have no witnesses.....
Welcome to the real world of assh0le cops.

I don't know about fighting it, but now you know why we don't drive like we're still in HS anymore. It's not worth the trouble.

I've been in situations like that.. you don't want the guy passing you and that's often when I feel like flooring it to keep him behind me. I'm not saying that's what happened here - whether you're denying it or not doesn't affect anyone but yourself.

Your dreaming, that wont happen. Pay a lawyer or just pay the tickets and move along.

you can go fight it, i just don't think you'll win if the cop shows up.

essentially you can't rely on the "but i didn't pass anyone" since if the cop says "then why would i give you an improper passing ticket?" the court immediatley goes "you lying SOB, get outa my court".

Sorry man, as stated above, welcome to the world, of hating cops.

my friend got a ticket for driving his car up the grapevine (the mountain on the drive to LA), it's a pretty steep grade, 11% or such i don't remember the number, but basically in a fully loaded car with 1 passanger the officer claimed he was doing 101 miles per hour. My friend began to ask how he could reach such a speed in a four banger, and the officer said "the extra power from your turbo i heard as you drove by, i don't care how you did it, you did it".

when he went to court, he got the ticket, even though his car doesn't have a turbo and pointed out that the officer was being prejudicious, and all the logic seemed to prove against it. He even had his brother, who is a Math Graduate student at Cal Tech, physically diagram the situation, and prove it impossible for his car to have reached such a speed, and then he offered his keys to the officer to drive up the mountain, and if he could reach 101 miles in the car fully loaded with one passanger, he would gladly accept the ticket.

the court laughed, gave him the ticket, sent him on his way. *shrugs*

What someone just told me is that in MA when you go to an appeal the cop doesn't show up. I don't know how valid that is but that is just what someone told me. Do you guys have any idea where I can find out if that is true or not?

Why not try calling the clerk of courts? If you go to court to appeal the ticket, the cop is almost guaranteed to show up.

I usually do that to SUVs.

Who cares? The police station needs a new coffee maker. Keeping city employees happy is more important than the truth...

That's not the impression I got from the OP at all, maybe y'all need to stop being so instantly critical. The impression I got from slag is that he needs a rusty icepick in the eye though.

Did you try posting on a ricer forum, offering your fart can in trade for a stock exhaust? I bet you'd get plenty of takers, and free is a heckuvalot cheaper than $150 in tickets (I doubt you would have gotten noticed without the fart can)

Final note: Don't put the pedal to the floor until you've scoped out the area, and decided that it's both safe and cop-free.

Definitely fight this... its a BS ticket and there is no reason that you should pay it and suffer from insurance hikes.

Hire a good Traffic Ticket Lawyer and they will most likely get you off.... money well spent. I had a situation where I got a ticket for something that I didn't do too... hired XCopper and they got me off completely (no fine, no record) and I didn't even have to show up in court!

So on my way to my friends house to watch the game last night, I come to a stop at a traffic light. It's a two lane going into a one lane road.

I'm actually stopped at the light and the light turns green so I put the pedal to the floor. There is a car passing me on the right and I let him get in front of me.

Anyway right before I had to take a left into a side road, this is about a mile down the road, I see cop lights behind me. I pull over thinking that he just has to pass by but then he stoped behind me. I'm thinking to my self wtf? I didn't do anything wrong. Hell I didn't even exceed the speed limit! He comes up to the car and was like do you know why I pulled you over? I said no officer I don't.

He said "Because you were playing chicken with that car back there at the light."

Now at this point I'm thinking to my self, I was playing chicken? All I did was accelerate and there is no law against that. I didn't even spin my wheels out or anything.

Anyway he goes back to his car and comes back eventually with a ticket for:

1) 90/16 Loud Exhaust - $50
2) 89/2 Improper Passing - $100

The first thing is my exahaust isn't really that loud. My intake is far louder than my exhaust. So even if they do pull out a dB meter I won't be over the limit.

And the second thing is I didn't pass anyone! so if I appeal this ticket do you think I will be able to get out of it?

Go to court.

Actually no I wouldn't get many takes for my exhaust. It's a sh1tty one and its rusting. It is probably worth less than a stock one.

Call the cop's house, tell him his mother has cancer, he won't show up at court, you win.

I dunno...my friend traded the stock exhaust on his maxima for a whole car once. It was an old nissan with no engine...but still.

I don't know how it is where you are from, but 9 out of 10 times, in Bayonne (NJ) where I live, all you have to do is show up in court, and the officer almost never does, and the tickets get thrown out. Just go to court, it may be worth your time.
