We just bought a house where I replaced all of the door knobs.
A lot of the latches didn't align with the strike plates.
After tightening all of the door hinges, BAM, they align and the doors move much smoother.

So if you're bored some evening, get that screw driver or impact driver out and tighten those hinges.

While you're at it, go ahead and lubricate the hinges.
Silicone spray is fast and works quickly, but removing the hinge pin and smearing it with lithium grease will last longer.
The grease will also help prevent the dreaded hinge dust from getting on your walls and trim.

for a while, i thought a few doors in my house were possessed. if i closed them half way, they would close all the way on their own. then yesterday, i remembered that i lubricated the hinges a few months back. apparently, the air purifiers in those rooms provided enough force to push the doors closed. before lubrication, there was enough friction to keep the doors still. i never would have imagined that there would be a "con" in lubricating hinges.

Self shutting doors can also indicate look hinge screws. They will lean away from the hinge side, causing the door to swing shut.

One may need to also replace screws to tighten the hinge.

then make sure that someone previously did not use a substitute screw that may not be the correct size.

They make screws that are a #9 head on a larger body (#10 body maybe?).
They are brand name Fringe Screw and available at Home Depot.

They will fit snug in a worn out hinge hole, but still sit flush in the hinge countersink.

edro, so you have more than a few screws loose?

Add a couple of broken toothpicks if the screw's loose.

We had a lot of squeaky doors in the house... A friend of ours visited for a weekend and suggested I grease the hinges... I did and my wife got so mad. A few of the doors constantly close now. It's gotten better since I first greased them, but I learned a lesson.

Apparently the builder threw in a extra hinge dust. It's all over the place. We had no idea what it was when we moved in.

Anyone try these for stripped screw holes?
Yeah, those work great.
I used them in some cabinet door screw holes years back.
It's very thin perforated aluminum. It's just a space filler that screw threads get better friction on.
The ones you linked are already in strip form.
The usual kind you find are small tabs that you need to cut with scissors. These
