A ten year old game has become my favorite PC game of all time. Its right up there with BioShock, and Half Life.

For me, its the story. Naughty Dog has crafted a story around a man Joel who lost his little girl Sarah during the beginning of the outbreak. You go 20 years into the future, and Joel has become an old(er) bittered man. And, Ellie. A little girl who holds the cure for mankind. The graphics are still amazing. The way that nature has consumed the city, and the surrounding neighborhoods. The clothes that Joel and Tess are wearing are old, dirty and stained. The apartment that Joel is living in is decrepted and decaying. Its a very bleak world, when compared to the beginning of the game. Life has become much much worse. The infected are frightening. The hostiles are difficult to defeat. Its best to avoid confrontation as much a as possible. Stealh is key to survival. The little interactions between Ellie and Joel are very interesting. Ellie has never been outside the walls. She was born during the outbreak, and had never experienced what life was like before it all went to hell. When you finish the game, other game modes unlock. Permadeath, bulletime, etc. You can customize the game to how you want to play it. From very light (easy) to grounded (ultra realistic). Also, the Left Behind DLC unlocks which I found just as enjoyable.

The game has been fixed since launch. I'm playing on a MSI GP66 Intel i7 11th gen, gtx 3080, 16gb ddr4 3200 dual channel. Resolution is at 2560x1440, most settings on high. MSI afterburner: maintian 60-90fps, temps about 88c- 94c at times. Expected since the game can be demanding, and I am on a gaming laptop. But, I'm not having any issues at all. No crashes. No slowdowns. A very good gaming experience.

TLoU reminds me a bit of Half Life 2. The enviroment draws you in. The little things that happen when you play add so much flavor to the gaming experience. I'm on my 3rd playthrough, and I'm still discovering new things.

10/10 TLoU is a masterpiece that I wish I had played a decade ago. Its better late than never.

I thought this series was Playstation only. If it's on PC, I would try it out.

Its been out on Steam for about 6 months now. Had a very bad debut. Bugs, crashes, etc. Those have all been fixed.

I liked the second one even better, as amazing as the first was. And considering Sony is remastering that one too shouldn't be two long before it's on PC to 2 be honest.

Yeah, TLOU Part 2 was notoriously review bombed by people who didn't like the story but I think it's a more ambitious game than the first.

To OP: If you thought TLOU was an emotional rollercoaster, TLOU Part 2 is even more so in my opinion. When I beat TLOU Part 2 on my PS5 like 2 weeks after it was released, I sat in my chair for a solid 15 minutes in silence just reflecting on everything that had happened. I think that Naughty Dog did a fantastic job with TLOU Part 2's story and it reflected how humans put into this apocalyptical nightmare behave in a realistic, brutally honest way.

Cool. I've kind gotten into remastered games. Great game play plus updated graphics. What's not to like.

I watched a lets play (no commentary) on TLoU2 and it looked awesome. I personally liked the story.
Gamers were upset that Joel died so early in the game, but his story arch was completed. He had to go. He was from the old guard. Abby and Ellie are the new guard.

In fact, most of the characters in the TLoU2 were young, besides Tommy, Maria and a few others. The game was centered on the younger generation.

Check out this video on TLoU2 . I believe he nailed it.

Perhaps you should put a SPOILERS tag on your post, but I wholeheartedly agree with what you wrote.

I think a lot of angst from the gamers who didn't like TLOU was from them not liking how the game was trying to make them feel a certain way, or that the plot was leading them in a too predictable, trope-y direction. It's rather unfortunate because I personally think visual storytelling is best enjoyed when one consciously opens themselves emotionally to what's being presented. It's perfectly okay to be "led". If all the viewer does is try to outsmart the writer(s) the entire time they play the game so that they don't get surprised by plot twists, it really, really takes away the intent of videogames as a story telling medium. TLOU2 is not some murder mystery where the writer(s) know that the viewer is going to try to figure out the plot, where they understand it is a key component of the enjoyment of the audience. All TLOU tries to be is a brutally honest narrative on the human condition. You put characters in a bleak, unforgiving environment who make morally ambiguous decisions on a daily basis, and it's the writer(s) intent for the audience to hopefully relate to them in some way, shape, or form. The audience may not agree with their decisions, which is perfectly OK and is the intent of the writer(s), but at least you can either sympathize or empathize with what they are going through. There are no "lessons" to take away from playing TLOU or TLOU Part 2, in my opinion. It's not "violence is bad, mmmkay?" All it is, and all it ever should be, is the audience following along with characters they care about, knowing full well the situation these characters live in means some characters have an arc that ends shorter than others. It doesn't mean their arc had no meaning or purpose. It just is what it is.

I thought the angst was the result of Ellie being gay and neckbeard gamer trolls going full MAGA on the game, decrying it's "woke" agenda and all.

....but why?

I don't understand this mentality. Old and new are not analogues for good and bad. He's recognizable part of the IP, and people wanted to see more of him. It's only natural.

I would agree that his sudden and brutal death, however, are on brand for story and setting. But they killed off a likeable character with one who is patently unlikeable. Maybe that had something to do with the discontent?

Gamers asking "is this game a woke fest" are just foolish. oh my god, the character is gay. Who cares. No one is trying to "make you gay."

Just my opinion, but mosst people dislike change. TLoU was one of the best games of the 2010s. Its an all time classic. And so, many gamers were expecting the same. If you watched the video I posted, the creator made a good point. Joel's story arch was completed. There wasn't really anything else to pursue on his end. The game was centered on Ellie and Abby because it was now there time to shine. Ellie wasn't the 14 year old girl anymore.

-I love the implication of those arguments that these people feel that at some point they could have been talked into being gay/trans/whatever.

I tried playing The Last of Us years ago and again recently when the show came out. Petered out both times. Boring gameplay and unlikable characters. I don't see what impressed people.
