Ive been a bills fan my entire life. I can't see where in the organization that this was concluded to be a good decision.
The only motive I see is for ticket sales. Even then, TO's reputation alone can scare people.
Im in Toronto so Ive hopped on teams bandwagons every now and then, but ive been paying more attention to the Bills for the last few years. They have a solid team being put together, and TO is the spark they need to put them into the playoffs. Lynch running up the gut, Evans with the bomb threat and now a TO that can be free to draw defenses towards him help a ton on offense, and their defense has always been decent. Edwards is a solid pocket passer that was a huge improvement over JP, and if TO doesnt bring excitement to the crowd, then ship the team to our city. I think he'd like the spotlight up here.
Yea, that Miami game was such a success they needed riot police to keep people out of the stadium.
The toronto "crowd" took a classic buffalo vs. miami rivalry, removed the winter elements, nixed the tailgating, priced the seats and parking beyond Air Canada centre prices, and created an atmosphere similar to that of a dull broadway musical. Of course it didn't help that the game was boring, but still, it's football not ballet. It doesn't seem like the NFL is going to work in Toronto, but I'm sure they are still going to try. TO won't be around long enough in Buffalo to garner attention from our northern brothers.
As for the team, they do have a solid core that needs to show up and compete now, not later. TO just doesn't seem like the right fit now. TO signed a one year deal that is more fitting to a rental player that is brought in push a mid-level team into a true contender. I just don't see the bills at that point yet.
The crowd here in Buffalo doesn't need more "excitement", it needs a winning team. The tickets always sell out, with or with out a media magnet drama whore like TO.
I understand how TO's presence can grab the attention of defenses, which can help a well balanced offense. You see that happen with all teams who have a high profile #1 wideout, and a couple of very talented #2 and #3s flying under the radar. That was the idea in Dallas but it didn't work so well, even with what I consider to be generally superior talent to Buffalo.
I think TO is going to be a distraction on and off the field. He will be screaming at a coach (Jauron) who doesn't react, bitching at a QB (edwards) who is still developing, griping about an offensive coordinator (Schonert) who simply calls a different game than he is used to and likely complaining about a city that just isn't as hip as Miami or Los Angeles (ala Willis McGahee).
Funny that you mention Lynch, who knows if he will even be playing opening day. Seeing as how the fucking moron can't manage to stay out of trouble with the law. Possible that Fred Jackson is the starting tailback for the first few games, which could be a good thing.
I always hope the Bills are going to have a good year, they are my hometown team. Maybe TO will provide enough offensive spark to put up a few more points and make them a contender, but I highly doubt it. I just don't see TO as a good fit in this developing locker room. I know for a fact that the biggest beneficiary of TO this season will be the Buffalo News reporters and the sports cartoonists.
