To Hell with Dell!

Last week I placed an order on the Dell website for their XPS system so I can finally play EQ2 as my current PC does not support it.

The reason I went with Dell? Well, I could've just as easily gotten an Alienware for actually a few hundred dollars cheaper then the Dell but I decided to go with Dell because on their website the estimated ship, which states that the order will be shipped on or even before, the 17th of November... Today, wednesday. As where the AW wouldn't ship unttil 2 days after on that Friday.

So, I went with the Dell. I also was sure to upgrade my shipping to 2 day air to be sure I get my new Dell on friday so I can have the entire weekend of setting it up and playing EQ2. Then come the following Tuesday I'd also be able to play WoW... I would've had the weekend with EQ2 and then finally WoW.

But all of suddenly, today on the day of my Dell's shipment, I get an email stating that my entire order is being put on hold and won't ship until the 24th.

I call Dell and surprisingly, get someone who I can understand. His reason for my order being delayed is because the processor I got is backordered. I have to wonder though.... How? On the Dell website it shows that my PC has been in production. It's been kitted, built and even tested! How could my PC have been tested wthout its processor? =/

But whatever. Maybe that is the truth in some weird, strange way. So I buy it. Mostly because I have to buy it. I can't cancel this order and start over, which I would, because AW won't ship until all the way in Decemeber now. So I'm screwed by Dell and am stuck waiting an entire extra week to be able to finally play freaking EQ2. And the worse part is, that by the time I get to play EQ2, WoW will already be out.

What upsets me though, believing this reason of delay, is that I ask if I could upgrade my processor. Does Dell have the 3.8Ghz? I'd upgrade to that to get my PC shipped out sooner. Or how about the Extreme HT? Either the 3.4 or 3.46... I don't care, I'd upgrade to get my PC on the day Dell promised me it. But guess what, Dell's customer support is so screwed up he doesn't know.

The guy I spoke to should know what they have in stock and he should be able to upgrade my processor to another one that would let me PC ship out and be at my house on the day it was promised. But he doesn't.

Any other time I get a delay I can call in and change my order around. But with Dell? Can't do that. What is the customer service even for?

I remember calling Dell once before asking about applying a coupon I missed. She said no, which is weird because I know other people who called Dell up after placing an order and were able to apply their coupon. But whatever. What am I going to say? So then I ask her about my order and when its going to ship (This was yesterday, I already had a hunch that my order was going to be delayed) but she didn't know... She doesn't have access to that information. So to find that out I would have to hang up and go through Dell's annoying phone thing again.

Most every service number you call, it doesn't matter who you get that picks up the phone as they all have the same information available to them. It's only with Dell they don't. And why? To frustrate their one-time customer.

So now thanks to Dell I'm stuck waiting an extra week for my PC that was promised to be here by Friday. It's funny too that their website doesn't upgrade. According to their website its still shipping today! I hate websites that don't show the right information.

Pisses me off more so that because of Dell I can't go to AW as there stuff is much more backordered then it was before I placed my order with Dell. So I'm stuck handing Dell my money for screwing me over.

Never again will I get a Dell. And I will be sure to advise all I know to not get a Dell.

OMG... ITS A MIRACLE.

Disregard all I have said... Everyone disregard it!

I just checked the Dell website and my order shipped! I can't believe it!

I'm not crazy either... I got an email about the delay and then called which confirmed the delay but now the website is saying it shipped! So I'm going to believe the website as it doesn't piss me off.

I'm not out of the woods yet though... Speakers haven't shipped and I even got another email stating that the speaker order is delayed. But I also got an email just before the PC shipped stating that it is delayed too. So I don't know what to think of all this... I'm going to call Dell later today.

Hmmm, unless you're planning to run a DC project on this machine....

....I'd say you're in the wrong forum

Sorry to hear about your troubles tho. I deal with Dell all the time and have had very little issue with them.

Dell is having logistical problems with thier new ordering system, I get anywhere from 1-20 boxes a day from them, today I was supposed to have 8 boxes, I got 2, so I've been twiddling my thumbs all day today, and tomorrow I'll have to bust my @ss to do all my service calls. (I'm a DCSE field engineer)

Hope you didnt buy a support plan....... their tech support is from Bob in India. LOL.

My ex's mom bought the good support plan and ended up having to take her entire Dell apart with this Indian guy coaching her (she is completely computer illiterate) before they would send out an American tech to her house.

Welcome to the DC forum, GopGuyCA

I've heard of this happening before.

If you had told them to cancel your order, it would ship as promised. I know someone who did this.

They probably don't have as many PCs ready to ship as were ordered, but someone before you complained HARD and got their PC. If you had complained just as hard, the guy after you would have had to wait.

Anyway good luck with your awesome new system!

It really would crunch Folding @ Home work units fast though

Help find a cure for diseases that you or your loved ones might get.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I know the speakers shipped... Shipped by DHL. Will be here tomorrow I believe.

The PC itself though, I'm not sure. It stills says that it is IN TRANSIT on the Dell site which describes in transit as being able to take several days. But again, not sure. The woman I talked to earlier to confirm the shipment asked me if I wanted an order number, so perhaps their site is just REALLY screwed up.

Either way, I'm hoping to have it all arrive tomorrow. I'm really excited to get it all set up -- My favorite part! And then FINALLY being able to play EQ2.

So weird! A friend ordered the same system with a ship date of 11/10. On that day she got an email stating that there was a delay and it would be two more weeks. I suggested she called them and see what the delay was. I said that if it was the video card (X800SE) that she could see if they had another one that would allow the system to ship sooner. Well, she called and they told her they had no idea what was delaying the order. So, she canceled the order and went with a system from Monarch.

Now, I am thinking she should have waited!

BTW, you WILL be running SETI on that bad boy, right? You should get 20+ WU/day, except when gaming. I have the XPS notebook with the 3.4 Ghz P4. Great box!

I am so pissed off.

Yesterday Dell ships off my PC/monitor with next day air BEFORE my speakers were shipped using UPS and the PC and monitor won't be at my house until tomorrow.

Yet they send my speakers off with next day air at a later time then sending my PC and I get that early this morning from DHL.

I will NEVER use UPS. This really pisses me off. UPS is more unreliable then the USPS, which is a down-right shame.

The speakers came, as they were supposed to, thanks to DHL. Unlike UPS, DHL knows how to run a business.

The monitor/PC... The order has them conjoint under one order number as where the speakers were given their own number.

Regardless of all this, both order numbers were scheduled to ship on the same day, the 17th. Apparently both order numbers did ship. The speakers arrived as they were promised by Dell through DHL.

The PC/monitor split into two seperate packages with unique tracking numbers. Obviously they aren't going to ship them together.

Both promised to be here on the 18th by Dell. Thanks to UPS they did not arrive. UPS also doesn't even know when they are going to arrive or their current physical location as I would be more then happy to drive where-ever and pick them up myself. The woman does say the package will be here tomorrow but can't promise. In fact, I got conflicting information from the 3 people I spoke to from UPS.

I also asked about this GROUND shipment. Dell was supposed to have them delivared next day, as they did with the speakers. The Dell website lists them as shipping through next day service.

The UPS site says Ground. The people I talked to from UPS confirm ground shipping.

Either Dell screwed up in shipping the items or UPS screwed up by getting next day air confused with Ground.

The last person I talked to from Dell called UPS and then told me that the PC/monitor will be here tomorrow. I asked her again to confirm which she did. But again, if they weren't here today how could I expect them to be here tomorrow?

Because I do not want the weekend lost and to have my PC/monitor in the hands of careless delivary people for any longer then 2 days at the most -- who seem to literally beat packages with a bat for fun -- I am believing the words of the woman from Dell that my PC/monitor will be here tomorrow.

The information on the UPS site is questionable though as it is still listed as just having the billing information and not being in actual possesion of the packages with a delivary date listed. So there is still a great amount of doubt in the back of my mind and an uncontrollable feeling of being on edge.

But because I want to be able to at LEAST have my PC for the weekend and a chance to play EQ2 before WoW comes out PLUS not wanting my stuff in the hands of them abusive postal workers... I am really keeping the hope that my stuff will be here tomorrow.

I'm also hoping that the packages are in decent condition and that my equipment is in solid condition. Not banged up or scratched up or totally broken due to the negligence of them careless postal workers.

I think it's hilarious how polite we are here Anywhere else this was posted would have resulted in a range of responses from firm direction to post elsewhere to a four letter acronym regarding combustion. Here he gets sympathy and a few polite hints

GopGuyCA, could you provide some coles notes? That's an awful lot to read about shipping computer parts.

I assume you're aware of the irony of that statement, considering what and how you said your previous statement?

anyways he must understand that all companies have very complicated CRM,SCM,ERP packages to help smooth out things, but sometimes somethings may go wrong.
if he didn't expect delay,do what we do, assemble.
