Last week I placed an order on the Dell website for their XPS system so I can finally play EQ2 as my current PC does not support it.
The reason I went with Dell? Well, I could've just as easily gotten an Alienware for actually a few hundred dollars cheaper then the Dell but I decided to go with Dell because on their website the estimated ship, which states that the order will be shipped on or even before, the 17th of November... Today, wednesday. As where the AW wouldn't ship unttil 2 days after on that Friday.
So, I went with the Dell. I also was sure to upgrade my shipping to 2 day air to be sure I get my new Dell on friday so I can have the entire weekend of setting it up and playing EQ2. Then come the following Tuesday I'd also be able to play WoW... I would've had the weekend with EQ2 and then finally WoW.
But all of suddenly, today on the day of my Dell's shipment, I get an email stating that my entire order is being put on hold and won't ship until the 24th.
I call Dell and surprisingly, get someone who I can understand. His reason for my order being delayed is because the processor I got is backordered. I have to wonder though.... How? On the Dell website it shows that my PC has been in production. It's been kitted, built and even tested! How could my PC have been tested wthout its processor? =/
But whatever. Maybe that is the truth in some weird, strange way. So I buy it. Mostly because I have to buy it. I can't cancel this order and start over, which I would, because AW won't ship until all the way in Decemeber now. So I'm screwed by Dell and am stuck waiting an entire extra week to be able to finally play freaking EQ2. And the worse part is, that by the time I get to play EQ2, WoW will already be out.
What upsets me though, believing this reason of delay, is that I ask if I could upgrade my processor. Does Dell have the 3.8Ghz? I'd upgrade to that to get my PC shipped out sooner. Or how about the Extreme HT? Either the 3.4 or 3.46... I don't care, I'd upgrade to get my PC on the day Dell promised me it. But guess what, Dell's customer support is so screwed up he doesn't know.
The guy I spoke to should know what they have in stock and he should be able to upgrade my processor to another one that would let me PC ship out and be at my house on the day it was promised. But he doesn't.
Any other time I get a delay I can call in and change my order around. But with Dell? Can't do that. What is the customer service even for?
I remember calling Dell once before asking about applying a coupon I missed. She said no, which is weird because I know other people who called Dell up after placing an order and were able to apply their coupon. But whatever. What am I going to say? So then I ask her about my order and when its going to ship (This was yesterday, I already had a hunch that my order was going to be delayed) but she didn't know... She doesn't have access to that information. So to find that out I would have to hang up and go through Dell's annoying phone thing again.
Most every service number you call, it doesn't matter who you get that picks up the phone as they all have the same information available to them. It's only with Dell they don't. And why? To frustrate their one-time customer.
So now thanks to Dell I'm stuck waiting an extra week for my PC that was promised to be here by Friday. It's funny too that their website doesn't upgrade. According to their website its still shipping today! I hate websites that don't show the right information.
Pisses me off more so that because of Dell I can't go to AW as there stuff is much more backordered then it was before I placed my order with Dell. So I'm stuck handing Dell my money for screwing me over.
Never again will I get a Dell. And I will be sure to advise all I know to not get a Dell.
