He stated he thought it was dead, so I imagine he also thought he finished the job. Saying as several hours (presumeably) later it was gone, he was wrong, as he said himself in a follow up post.

Okay so you are saying he drugged it and he thought it died so he was leaving it there for hours hoping it would dispose of itself. Who would leave a dead animal lying on their back porch that is just asking for trouble?

Nik, I don't know what you have against me but here are some details to clear up some questions you may have.

The skunk was caught in a trap that was put out for racoons. We have a family of racoons in the area that have ENTERED our house and taken food. Once the skunk was trapped, I attempted to release but could not because it would threaten to spray when I would start to open the door of the cage. You have to understand that the cage door is not easy to open, it takes a bit of force and you need to stick your fingers into the cage basically to open it. After giving it the pills, I opened the door to the cage and quickly went back inside so that it would not spray me. I watched it walk out and go around the corner of the house. From there, it walked about 50 feet to the pool (I could not see it at this point). I walked to the other side of the house (insifde) and saw movement in the pool (outside) so I went out there, got the net, and pulled it out. It was struggling to breath at this point and I assumed it was dead or going to die. I left it there so that I could get rid of the body the next morning. In the morning, the it was gone.

If you think I intentionally put it in the pool or wanted to go there, you are mistaken. I will not sit here and try to convince you but this is what happened.

So you were too scared to get close to the cage to let it loose, but you had the balls to get close enough to it to feed it pills?

Sh|t just don't add up, mang.

Jostling a trapped animal in a cage is a lot different than dropping in cat food with pills in it. Give up Nik.

In the original thread it said he shoved cat food with pills in it towards the skunk, it gave the impression using a long object in the way he said it, fwiw.

this reminds me of Jack Nicholson in A few good men:

Jessep:

My answer is I don't have the
first damn clue. Maybe he was an early
morning riser and he liked to pack in the
morning. And maybe he didn't have any friends.
I'm an educated man, but I'm afraid I
can't speak intelligently about the travel
habits of William Santiago. What I do
know is that he was set to leave the base
at 0600. Now are these really the
questions I was called here to answer?
Phone calls and footlockers? Please tell
me you've got something more, Lieutenant.
Please tell me there's an ace up your
sleeve. These two marines are on trial
for their lives. Please tell me their
lawyer hasn't pinned their hopes to a
phone bill.
(beat)
Do you have any other questions for me,
counselor?

seriously dude, your arguments are weak.

That's one possibility, yes.

What actually happened is irrelevant to the fact that he got reported. He was reported for what he said happen, not what actually happened.

Oh so wait, you only look at 90% of a persons post history to figure out what they said not 100%?

You just take what you need out of context in order to make them guilty?

because he did in fact SAY that it left the next morning, he also said he thought it drowned but corrected that.

So if we arent going to count the part where he said it left, I don't think we can count the part where he said it drowned, seems a bit unfair and selective imo.
I'm simply stating that depending on when you read the thread you got a different story. *Someone* reported him, based on one of his version of the story.

Again, it doesn't matter what happened, just what he said happened. That's what got him reported. Also, the police, or whoever showed up, saw what he wrote and acted on that. They didn't know what happened either.

I didn't report him, and if you'll read the whole thread, I already said I didn't think it should have been reported. KTHXBYE.

Ok, so that's how you would do it. I'd try just gently dropping it in. I think the OP would probably side with me as well.

I use Adblock to great effect, I almost didn't remember there were ads. But considering the intelligence of this thread so far, its probably full of more IE users who have a blank look on their face. "ADBlock??"

Which is pretty close to the blank look I had, "Ads? What ads?" But then I remembered why I see no ads, the same reason I see no problem in killing skunks on your property.

 That suggests that you're close enough to the cage to get sprayed.

Why do drama queens always have to make some grand announcement when they leave a message board?

"I'm leaving but before I go I MUST share my angst with everyone. Their responses, pro or con will boost my self esteem and better able me to carry on in the face of such devasting circumstances..."

Bah! Aaaack. Like anybody cares.

Brilliant. Skunks spray to defend themselves. If you've ever seen a skunk in person it won't spray unless you statle it. Approaching cautiously and putting food in the cage would not scare it at all.
