It only half promotes griefing, as anyone who fires on you gets marked for the whole map to see. Their odds of getting out with the goods are significantly worse than yours.

But I didn't participate in the last beta, just going off what I've read.

Tough has nothing to do with it. I find it annoying. If they want a pvp zone make it pvp. Don't setup a mechanic that promotes trolling and griefing.
What I've also seen is if one person on your team goes rogue, usually the other players in your group will also go rogue, if you've been playing with a group that stayed together most of the time.

I won't say that its a fun mechanic but its not something that's game breaking. You don't lose anything you brought into the DZ and you can only carry 6 contaminated items so losses aren't huge, just slightly fustrating. At the end of the closed beta I was able to go in the DZ alone and get gear out most of the time.

I do wish it wasn't 100% chance to drop everything you pick up, maybe have it start around 50-70% drop chance and scale up the more items you are carrying. That way you have a better chance of at least getting something but a full pack will have a higher risk to go along with the reward. Attaching the bag should also be instant, surviving 90+ secs only to be killed during the 5 secs it takes to put a bag on the drop line is dumb. Especially since you can't cancel the procedure to move or defend yourself.

The amount of hits you take too from ammunition also doesn't make you die instantly. I've unloaded a whole clip in a character's face before and it did nothing. I don't know if they are planning to change this.

I agree it isnt game breaking. PVP isnt my interest in this game. I think there is a lot of potential for the PVE side to keep us entertained. I just wish they had a different mechanic to foster pvp. Make everybody red so when we call in a drop we dont have to sit there wondering if somebody or group will be a bunch of griefers waiting for us to load up. Or maybe implement a noteriety system. If you kill enough people you are not allowed back in the safe zone. Right now it is just ripe for griefers and that wont help the game long term imo.

Griefing does delay your respawn time when you eventually die, because griefers get tagged on the map for everyone to see.

Another beta two weeks before launch will serve to hype pre orders primarily, not sure how much can be fixed or changed that close to actual launch.

I called it two years ago in this thread, PVP needs a lot of work. During last beta, it was easy to bait others into going rogue. Fire 3 bullets at another player and you have a very short countdown to go back to normal status, if they fire back 4, they go rouge. You need to be in a team to reduce the temptation for another team to take you out, TTK makes the game like World of Tanks, it doesn't matter how good you are when you are outnumbered.

Taking down a player that didn't have good enough gear to deal and absorb damage is counterproductive anyway but many played online to grief others first. Ubi says 87% went rogue during beta. I went rogue a few times because I defended myself before learning about the rogue baiting, a few times because I joined a team that went rogue.

Game could borrow a few things from other games, neutral observers if you steal something like guards in Witcher 3. Gamers drive studios and publishers to create immersive experiences, gamers go to extremes to fill the roles the story mode dictates. Restarting the game from the beginning if they accidentally harmed a NPC during the campaign but if that very game goes online, it's all instantly forgotten.

Saw this quite a bit too, I usually just ignored them. Either they would move on or they would get frustrated and end up rogue. Also saw a lot of people stepping into active lines of fire on npcs to flag innocent shooters as rogue.

I'm more interested in the PvE myself, as I've never been a PvP player in RPG-type games. I'd maybe consider it if I had a couple people to play with, but it seems impossible to play PvP by yourself. To me that's shitty that you pretty much need a team to play PvP, but whatever, like I said I was more interested in PvE.

But I enjoyed the beta and didn't even experience the DZ, so I think the full game looks promising, at least to me.

Yea I enjoyed pve more than I did in destiny. There seemed to be more variation in exploring because its NYC and they had different quests.

But once I went into the DZ I got in with a good team because I helped them when another set of players went rogue on them. From that point we picked up anyone we came across as we were roaming around if they were friendly. One guy created a group on psn and will most likely be adding the same ones we played with when the game is out.

That's cool. Nice to know there's people like you guys to offset the griefer douchenozzles.

yeah, when we went into the dark zone we picked up quite a few stray guys around us. Unfortunately there was a cheater in the area getting everyone from a distance, but we found a large group and tracked him down! It was, to be honest, pretty awesome.

Open beta is this weekend and you can pre-load through UPlay now, its ~26.5gb. If you still have the closed beta installed there is a ~1.2gb update to bring it to open beta.

It will be similar to closed beta with some fixes/tweaks, an additional story mission, and anyone who participates gets a bonus item unlock for the full game.

All character data from closed beta has been wiped and all open beta character data will be wiped, everyone will start the release version with a clean slate.

I have it set to redownload on the ps4. Just have to remember to turn the damn thing on or maybe it will do it while in rest mode.

A small FYI for anyone who didn't play in closed beta:

The Microphone is set to on and open by default. Anyone in close proximity(a few meters) can hear anything you are saying. I'd recommend setting it to push-to-talk in the options.

Great. Missed the closed beta so looking forward to trying this game out this weekend.

I still have a 2GB 6950, been thinking about going to a 380 for this game. But, want to make sure I like the game first. I haven't been gaming anything lately, because BF is horrible, so hoping this game is fun.

I like strategy and teamwork, more thinking, as opposed to just endlessly shooting, respawn, shoot, die, repeat.

Got to love it when someone wants to ruin the experience before even making it to open beta.

I played the beta, and honestly I was not that impressed with it. They have two main selling points for the game:

1. It's an online RPG
2. The Dark Zone (PVP)

1. This is great for the feeling of progression and the whole "loot" aspect of it, but I feel it will start to become pretty stale quickly. One of the things I personally love about RPG games is that feeling of progression in both your character and your adversaries; you start out killing rats and pigs and eventually take down dragons and giant demons with clubs and, if we're talking online RPG's, raids against crazy looking bosses with other people. That is what an online RPG represents to me. In this game, its going to be 2-3 normal quality guys with guns and when you're max level it's going to be...more guys of higher quality with better guns? There's no scale of your accomplishment; it's just the same enemies with more health that deal more damage.

2. I think they are expecting the PVP portion to carry the game as the end-game content. I love to PVP, but again the whole thing felt stale to me. It's basically PVE unless someone accidentally damages someone else too much, which then causes EVERYONE to murder you practically instantly, or someone actually decides to go rogue, which they'll probably do only when they have no PVP loot on them so they don't risk losing it, so there's no benefit in killing them either except to not be killed yourself. I don't really know how to improve on the PVP aspect of it; it just wasn't right for me.

On the technical side; it looked great and played great. The shooting felt really responsive and the different guns provided the appropriate feedback, and the seamless world was impressive.

Given the other games coming out this year, I'll be passing at least initially.

I have seen the acronyms PVP and PVE in this thread. No idea what they mean...

PVP = people vs people?
PVE = person vs environment?

I need to try the beta this weekend so I have a clue what you're talking about and how the game operates.

The P is usually for player, not people, but yep, those are basically correct. PVP is where both combatants (or teams, or whatever) are comprised of players, PVE is where people are trying to beat the AI.

Very cool. Thanks for the reminder; I had forgotten about the open beta. Figures I uninstalled the closed beta thinking I wouldn't need it anymore. Oh well, the closed beta downloaded very fast so I assume this one will too.

Good info too. I swear that I went through the controls and setup before playing, as I do with any new game, and mine was already push-to-talk, but I could be mistaken.

Downloading now... will check out later tonight or tomorrow. I didn't like how "bosses" were just bullet sponges in videos that I saw already but we'll see. The open PVP may be fun.
