I'm a member of both forums I start at tom's first around 1999, then found AT in 2000. Most of the peoples post in here are true, The Reviews articles just went down hill around and after 2002. There are still a few knowledgable members as started like Crashman, and wusy. But ya the majority is now newbs, I remember to going to to Future shop one day a couple years back and seeing a one of Tom's VGA charts posted up in the computer sections. LMAO, that is when I knew the site went total Nub! I visit the forums from time to time, to guide the misguided. Mostly a AT forum member now tho. And even AT's review articles are lacking as of late, or atleast some of them. I actually like how the THG looks after the redid it. And they do cover alot of different subjects. But in the end I when I recommend review sites for nubs is Tom's and AT for people that know what they are doing.

I don't hate Tom's. I visit there on occasion. But their reviews and articles are often VERY POORLY translated into English. Their reviewers often seem to possess little in the way of critical faculties. Their forums are generally on a very low level. And it has appeared in the past as if their review ratings could be bought. Another little niggle: Items are often sold under different names in U-Rope than they are here, so you have to do some detective work if you run across something you might want to buy.

But as others have said, they often review items that aren't reviewed elsewhere - you just have to possess enough critical faculties of your own to winnow out the useful info are reject the rest. But that pretty much works the same way on all the FanBoy sites. Their PSU reviews are generally to a higher technical standars than on most FanBoy sites, but that's not saying a lot...

From what I have seen of THG reviews for a while now, while the facts are rarely controversial, they have a habit of doing things like :
- Having 6 benchmark scores which differ by 0.01% displayed on an log scale chart that makes it look like one of them is twice as fast as the others.
- Having results that differ by statistically insignificant amounts referred to as 'Destroying' or 'Crushing' the competition.
- Using, in general, Fox news style vocabularly and punctuation in article titles ( WOW !!! Killer, Awesome !! Champion !)
- Writing summaries or conclusions that seem to have a dubious connection to the actual results they provided in the article.

thats the one. it was a pathetic article and its sad that toms would even publish it.

Link? just curious to read it

THG has good hardware lists for video cards, cpus and hard drives. Was helpful in deciding what specific components to purchase for a new computer.

Tom's is older than AT. In fact I read about Anand Lai Shimpi in an article on Tom's.

I would not put too much value in the hate expressed on a forum. Hate is one of the most popular sentiments here.

I have read that Tom is biased towards this or that hardware company. I do not pay too much attention to this because it seems to be what fanboys write when Tom criticizes their favorite product. I have read that he is biased towards AMD and Intel.

I recommend reading both AT and Tom's.
