Tonight America should be proud!...

I'm saying this as a Canadian.

Whatever else the future may hold tonight America has finally stood up to 8 years of hellish governance that has greatly damaged the world. Tonight America has made an historic choice, the first African American president in the history of the country and in fact one of the few in the history of western civilization. This is a moment for us all to be proud. Whatever else may come America has now crossed a line it can not back track over. No more will we wonder if a "black man could ever win the presidency". Once this precedent has been set it's there for good in the history books for all to see. There is undoubtedly much work to do and the important question of how good a leader Obama will ultimately really be has yet to be answered (no mater the calibre of the contender few presidents have been faced with as dire a situation). But whatever the answer to these questions turn out to be history has been made tonight and we should all be very proud.

I am really glad of this victory, but what I like most is the fact that we are free of that stupid ex-president. The worst USA president that I know: two wars, broken economy, no social policy and proud to be uneducated.
He was a BIG danger, and by extension, he made that the people of the world felt that America was a danger too... very sad... and a false statement that you CAN change americans.

I awoke shortly after midnight, to the sound of a large crowd cheering and chanting something but I couldn't make out what it was they were chanting. At first I thought it was sports related as there are university recreation fields across the street from my house. It was much louder and more intense than that noise usually is. Then I realized the time, and that the poll results would probably be in on the west coast. I couldn't make out what the crowd was chanting, were they chanting "McCain?"
I stepped outside to see and hear what was going on. Hundreds or maybe thousands of people were out in the streets, what they were chanting was "UNITY!"
It's a great day for America.

Indeed this is a great day for the entire world. Obama's speech brought tears to my eyes, one of the best speeches I have ever heard. McCain's speech impressed me as well. Hopefully we will see a lot of progress in the next 4-8 years!!! Goodbye Bush!!!!

BTW, really it is a great day, I thought that I never see a afroamerican man become president. The implications of this are enormous, but He must prove he is able to change the things: some kind of social care (solidarity with the disadvantaged), control the economy changing the rules of ultra-wild capitalism, fight the extremists. The money, the tech all the things that we have invented are here to serve us. My2cts....
