i have a toshiba satellite 800-804 laptop. it has the TV-out function, but i cant quite get some options to work:

1) i have to reduce the resolution to 640x480 to view the whole screen on my Tv (29" sony wega). if i keep it at a higher res, i have to scroll around the screen(tv) to see the whole desktop. what's causin this prob?

2)i cant select the LCD/Tv option(which meants it'll display both, on the LCD as well as the TV). for some reason tht option is greyed out.

the laptop has an 8mb card. is it bcuz of this tht the probs are happening, or is it due to my TV?

1) That is normal with your Toshiba. Must live with it when using onboard TVout.

2) Enable dual display in Bios.
Or, you are not using correct drivers that allow that feature.
I believe the only Toshiba drivers that support that feature are Win95/98.
Me and newer do not support it with the Toshiba.
S3 drivers do not support it with the Toshiba.
Must use old Toshiba video drivers.

Or you can do what I did. Connect it to a scan convertor.
Now I can use 1024x768 on both TV and LCD at same time, with much better control.
Using TView Gold.

My Tecra 8000 works that way. I haven't had a chance to hook up a 1800 series to a TV so I don't know if that rings true for them as well.

your first problem is that a standard NTSC television is capable of displaying at maximum a 480i or interlaced lines image. Only a display monitor with HDTV (ATSC) capabilty such as 720progessive or 1080interlaced can show a larger windows desktop
