Wow. At the current rate of technology advancement, I'd say there's only 10 to 15 years left. By that point, we'll have holodecks that can be programmed with a touchable Jessica Alba (or whoever is the forum favorite lately) or a touchable Sean Connery (or whoever turns on the females these days.) At that point, near zero population growth (unless holograms can have babies.) And certainly, no one's coming out of their holodeck for long.

They are squirting air. Thats a pretty far cry from, say, a tactile pencil. If they show something that you can grip, then I'll be impressed. But this open palmed stuff just doesn't cut it for me.
I will give them that it is somewhat of an advancement in computer vision (sort of... Even cheap webcam software has about the level of detection needed to do this sort of stuff). This is to holodecks what a skateboard is to a car.

No, the camo is pretty cool and could be used practically in the right environment with proper scouting and advanced timing setups.
This hologram touch stuff however is just lame. The feelings of a slight breeze over your hand...wooow...

These aren't stepping stones. The ability to blow wind up you ass has nothing to do with holodeck tech. It is simply an application of tech that has seriously been around for at least 10 years. (The curved screen, and air blowers). An advancement in air blowing technology isn't going to affect our abilities to simulate sensations like gripping a rod, or feeling sand between your toes. (it is wind, it needs a straight shot at the points it is supposed to stimulate, if you make a fist, it can't blow inside your hand.)
Not to mention that no matter what they do, blowing air at high speeds is going to make noise, and a lot of it... Doesn't exactly set the mood for a holodeck like experience (Unless you like the sounds of 500 little air squirter going off randomly).

The lack of comprehension shown in this thread is pretty sad. The video and physorg article clearly state force from ultrasonic equipment is used. Even a first grader can read it and understand. Blowing air is not used or mentioned in video or article. Perhaps stuff like this is too complicated for AT?
