Sure. Often when a pit bull savages someone, the owner is as shocked as everyone else at how their sweet-tempered dog could do such a thing. These animals are dangerous, which is why they're being outlawed and controlled more and more.

Put her down ASAP.

Agreed. Dogs with this type of behavior need professional training.

Also, she is 30 lb and a medium-sized dog at best. She's not a scary monstrosity.

Tell that to the person whose cat she killed. :|

Perhaps that person will not allow a future cat to wander into someone else's yard. If cat owners are unfazed by their cats killing small animals that happen in the cats' path, then the same happening with an animal above the cats on the food chain is not something to marvel at.

OP - not sure why you would adopt a dog and not be willing to be responsible for it's care for next 10-15 years. You may me sick.

My recommendation would be to find an apt that takes dogs, find a good doggie daycare to take her when you go away. Since, you're not willing to do this would be to find a local pitbull or animal rescue. Any good rescue/animal shelter would have required you to return the dog to them if you couldn't care of it anymore.

Doesn't sound like a problem that exercise, discipline and training can't resolve.

QFT, you created this monster as well....pat yourself on the back and know next time pet ownership requires time, dedication and responsibility.

It's people like you that give these pit bulls a bad name. One should not get a dog because it's the cool thing to do/have.

Terriers in general are aggressive, they need a lot more work and training than something like a maltese.

Loving animals doesn't mean you get one, many people love the things they destroy...they are just clueless.

Unfortunately not possible. When I adopted her, my life was such that someone would be able to take care of her at nearly all times. Well despite subsequently marrying my SO, life happened and plans changed. Now I have a work schedule & travel that would prohibit having a dog and a living arrangement that prohibits having a dog.

Bolded for emphasis. When you get a dog, it's not about 'someone' taking care of it...it's about YOU!

The only thing constructive anyone can add is look for a pit bull rescue and see if they will take the animal.

Then don't adopt another dog/cat/etc until you can spend the proper amount of time per day the pet dictates.

The main reason they are being outlawed is that morons/thugs are owning this breed
for the wrong reason, responsible owners understand that Pit's are sometimes more
prey- aggressive and need lots of time and attention.

QFT, there is no domesticated breed that is naturally a vicious killer at birth. This is a trained response because many of the pit bull owners want the baddest ass dog out there.

Even people that keep security dogs know these are no longer pets.

The American Staffordshire was one of the major dogs that became the american families best friend.

The little rascals dog(s) and many other of the films of the day were all pit bulls. I don't think any of the little rascals were ever mauled and a dog's life in film was much harder than it is today.

The solution is to not get a freaking pitbull in the first place. The entire breed exists just for violence. It's in their nature to kill. Getting a pet that is a breed that was designed to fight other dogs, kill animals roughly child shaped/shaped, or attack humans is just stupid. Get a lab next time.

A lot of dogs have hunting instincts and were bred to chase down small prey. Never heard of or seen a dog chase after a squirrel or cat?

Both the squirrel and cat that his dog killed wandered into it's yard and stupidly got caught.

you post on craigslist and who knows who will get her, you hope for the best but who knows......perhaps someone that participates in dog fighting may take her off your hands....just food for thought.

Hopefully, if he adopts it out over craigslist and it's not a rescue organization that he's smart enough to perform reference/vet checks.

By your logic, do you shot to kill children that wander into your backyard to pickup a lost ball too? I mean how stupid are the children if they mindlessly trespass onto your property right? It's of course no fault of yours and you have every right to protect your property from intruders no matter their age. :disgust:

Are you an idiot? A squirrel/cat = children?

My dogs would chase a squirrel/cat and would want to lick the kid. Obviously, you've never had a dog or been around them to know that many love to chase squirrels/cats.

edit - oh wait, you're the one that called for the Pistons to win 1/2 in the first qtr. That answers my first question.

FYI, the Pit scores well on the temperament test Text we have an adopted Pit
and she loves people. As far as attacking humans almost ANY breed is capable of being vicious, hell I had a friggin
Basset hound lunge at me while doing a delivery!. Usually when you hear of a pit attack it's always the same
story, an owner of multiple dogs who just let them run wild..

If you cant find or cant afford a professional trainer you may have to get rid of the dog.
Serious personality disorders are not something you can cure in your spare time.

We can all offer little tips and tricks with dog training but this is a serious problem and will require lots of your time, or hiring a professional to do the job right.
