Wow, we got one as a rental car and it's quite nice. Was even getting about 63 mi/g in city (per on-screen display). Anyone have one and how do you like it?

That's because in Europe they already an abundance of compact diesel cars that already get 60 mpg.

yea, but the prius isn't compact, its big as a camry. its also not diesel, and comparing it to a diesel is pointless, people just don't like diesels in the us. one should compare its achievement to other gas cars... if one is fair and of course its not gonna pay for itself with the savings..but is polluting less really that aweful that one will only bother if it saves money?

and eh, do they use us or imperial gallon there? imperial is like 5/4 us gallon i think.

yea and they are all nationalistic with their british cars.. massively biased. esp since they are compensating for the fact that all their car companies have been bought up by other countries

last i checked the current prius has the internal room of a camry. thats pretty big.

as for the diesel, so whatif it costs the same. it has none of the disadvantages of diesel, esp in the us where we really don't care for diesel.

To be fair, a hybrid has many more disadvantages than a diesel in countries which use ultra-low sulfur diesel.

MORE was the word, and if you hadn't noticed the show is for the Euopean Market, not the Diesel-phobic US.

And who owns Chrysler exactly?

I thought is was funny how they dissed the v-10 in the viper for only having horsepower in the 500 range, making some comment like give a european a v-10 and you will get about 100 more horses out of it. Then the next episode had an aston martin 500~ horsepower

6 litre Aston Vs 8 litre Viper, same horsepower = V10 suckage. And, before you start, I KNOW the Aston is a V12....

You asked, I delivered. Don't b|tch about it.

The BMW deal was nothing more than asset stripping. They took technology from Range Rover to Produce their first SUV, raped MINI and then sold, dropped the rest.

The Irony of the MG/China Brilliance deal is that the Chinese will be getting vast technical knowledge Vs their manufacturing might. I'd look out for them in the future...

DivideBYZero, I've always hated Europeans, and one of the big reasons is that you guys get all the really cool passenger diesels.

IIRC, Chrysler makes a diesel mini van & several other models I'd kill to own.

(I'm on my 2nd diesel VW BTW, only small diesel you can get in the states )

Maybe its different for cars but most of the diesel trucks I've been around (either semi's or pickup) stink. I don't think I could ever get used to that smell.

it's the U.S.'s "low" sulpher diesel it still wreakes of sulpher, but no where near as bad as high sulpher diesel.

What you see on that display is very misleading. In fact there was an article on MSNBC exactly about how Toyota was inflating the mpg ratio to sell the car. The car was found to have 44 mpg on average instead of the 64 they had advertised. I believe on TopGear they said the same exact thing.
The display is bull$shit. It only gives you a snapshot of what the mpg is at that very moment in time. You might be decelerating at that very moment and the display would show you 70mpg. I had an old 200sx that had something similar and it showed the very same thing on a lcd output.
The Top Gear people hated it because the perks (tax breaks and supposedly low fuel consumption) were absolutely not worth it to get a crap car. The car was found to have very poor road handling as well as a low top speed.

So you don't think comparing the Prius to diesel cars is fair, but comparing the Prius, which is a hybrid, to other gas cars is fair?

Uh huh..

Also the English, appropriately enough use the English system, which is the same system we use..
