Transition from CRT to LCD

My Hyundai L90D+ arrived yesterday around 3:39pm and I got home around 6pm ish. When I got home, I went directly to my front door and there it was. Laying there in a box that said Hyundai L90D+ 19" TFT LCD monitor and I was a little disappointed in UPS just leaving it there. Anyways, I lugged my 17" Samsung 753DF off my desk and setup the LCD with ease compared to work and lifting of the CRT.

To my surprise when I turned it on, one stuck blue pixel :*(. So I tried having it a go with a DVD movie and that blue pixel was such a bother because it near the center of the screen. Gaming wasn't so bad, played a little bit of WoW and I kept thing something was over in the direction of the blue dot. Didn't notice it too much in BF2.

Now here comes the big problem for me, the fonts. There is like a glow around the letters. So I ask my friend and he told me that cleartype font was on so I turned it off and everything got aliased. I did some searching around here and people recondmended cleartype tuner, no luck there. I also did the color calibration, no luck also. Everywhere I read people said reading was so much better but I am having a hard time. I honestly don't know if its the LCD or me.

Yes and I just did that and I can see why my friend said that cleartype is a must for lcd.

I think there are ways to kill pixels, which I'd think would help you with your lcd. You'd have to look it up though, but a dead pixel would definitely be better than a stuck one. As for the fonts... mine are perfect. Are you running at the native 1280x1024 resolution? (it will look horrible otherwise).

I'm @ 1280x1024, no good. How can dead pixel be fixed? Aren't dead pixel dead? And stuck pixels can be possibly fixed. I tried that program with the flash colors already today. I'll try it again tonight before I head to bed. I'll probably just RMA it if I can and should I stick with this monitor?

I just wouldn't like a blue glowing dot on my screen. A dead pixel is near impossible to notice at times.

you can also try the massgage trick for fixing stuck pixels.
Also go to display properties > apperance and set your font to Large Font. Its not too much larger but it looks a whole lot better at 12*10.

Are you running at 1280x1024 native resolution? Reasonable contrast/brightness settings (maybe at 50%?) I don't know what you mean by glowing...

DVI or analog connection? Incorrect Cleartype settings can cause artifacts around text, but you said you turned it off...

Check your physical cable connections, it may be a loose wire. Also, make sure ClearType is off, contrast/brightness are high, and gamma is medium. Maybe you got a bad LCD, because mine is *perfectly* sharp. I know not all of them are since my sister's 15 inch one is not crisp (also very cheap and old). Im sure it is something related to software, since most modern lcds are perfectly sharp in text.

if you text is too small it becomes pixelised, no amount of clear type is going to fix it. enable large fonts while at 12*10 and I guarentee it will help.

My lcd is on its native resolution 1280x1024 and connected through dvi. The problem for me is that when I turn cleartype on, there is like a greenish tinge surrounding letters. When I turn cleartype off, its no longer a problem but these letters right now are really jagged at 96dpi, looks a little better at 120dpi but it screws up certain windows and make it out of proportion. I tried cleartype tuner to adjust it but no luck.

Ok, I tried the video for another eight hours while I was at work. No luck... has anyone tried the video pixel fixer upper? 60% of time it works my #$%. How long am I gonna have to massage it for?

Sorry, I'm tired from rubbing my LCD. Anyways, I'm getting a headache just looking at this. Anybody with an L90D+ with similar problems?

The L90D+ is a 19" monitor, so has larger pixels - you can easily see each pixel in text. A 17" LCD will have smaller pixels, and the text will be noticably less "jagged". I think your best bet would be to go with something like the Dell 2005fpw, which has a smaller pixel size. Either that, or get a 17" LCD if seeing every pixel in text bothers you.

I can't stand clear-type - it just makes text look fuzzy. I don't mind the "jaggedness" of the text - its only jagged because it perfectly displayed to each pixel. My eyes aren't great so the larger pixels help me out.

Oh, makes sense, because my brother's 17"LCD fonts were alot easier to read then mine. Thanks a bunch. I might get into looking into the 2005fpw.

Return it if you can. If you can't, I think you just learned a valuable lesson on buying an lcd from an online retailer. The only online retailer I would buy from is Dell, because you can return for any reason.

It will take a few days for your eyes to adjust. I experienced the same thing when I got my L90D+ after using a CRT. After a few days I didn't notice it and after a few weeks I was unable to use my CRT anymore. The LCD picture just looked much better to me. Cleartype is a must with LCDs. Try using larger fonts on the L90D+. However, I would return it due to the stuck pixel in the center of the screen.

dont mess with the dpi setting in advanced, it should stay at 96dpi, just enable "Large Fonts" under the appearnce tab. It really helps alot if you do it this way, at least with my VX924 with the same size pixels it dose.

That's what I did, but it totally screws up the my start menu and other windows.

Well...there shouldn't be any greenish glow around the text. This is highly strange. I have multiple LCD's in the house and at work and with cleartype on, none of them exhibit this behavior. I'd RMA the monitor.

As for dead pixels, a bright green, blue or red stuck pixel are horrible. Especially if it's near the middle. Luckily my own LCD (2005FPW) has only a stuck grey pixel in the upper right corner and unless I'm viewing something on a white background I don't notice it at all. The only reason I noticed it at all was running a monitor test and checking to make sure it was good when I first got the LCD.

i want to get a 2005fpw now but I'm afraid of my luck with stuck pixels. I need to find out how much I can ship it back to them. Is $28.18 expensive for shipping for a 15 lb package (cause that's how much tigerdirect charged me)? If that is the case to ship it back, I basically lost 60 dollars.

Instead of using "Large Fonts" in Windows you can try increasing the font size in text applications that you use. For example you can increase the font size in IE and Firefox. You can increase the zoom in Office applications like MS Office. It's what I did when I had my 19" mostly because larger fonts are easier to read. Do it for each app and it wont screw up your start menu etc.
