40GB IBM 40GNX @ Googlegear for $128
or
40GB Toshiba MK4019GAX (5400rpm) for $127.50

Personally worth the $30ish buck to get double the space.

Finally I would just like to say that you guys are nuts, sure 5400rpm drives are faster, but it creates a much larger heat issue and decreaes your battery life. I've heard of people upgrading ibooks with 5400rpm drives decrease their battery life by 30-45 mins which is about 15%!

I wish I could replace the HDD in my powerbook with a 5400 rpm one. If I do it myself, it voids the warranty. If I have Apple do it, they'll charge me $350 just for the install.

OMG! That's an outright ripoff! :| How much left on the warranty? Don't you wish Apple get a clue and make HDD swaps easy, like IBM does.

Yes it is 8mb cashe, in fact the toshiba has a 16mb cashe. It's all about trying to cashe as much as possible so that the heads don't have to seek. As heads moving while being bumped and jarred can cause bad sectors.

Yes, that is true I upgraded my ibook. I admit that apple has one of the better warranties out there, but I honestly don't beleive in warranties. And AppleCare is a load of crock. Basically if the notebook were to randomly fail apple would fix it, but if you were to drop it and break the screen or anything that is in any way the users fault you have a ridicously fee to fix it (mind you a slightly reduced fee if it is under warranty, but still just insanely high like $300+ just to fix a power connector).

So it looks as if it is indeed 8mb cache ATA-100 drive. Awsome! Just makse sure your laptop is ATA-100 compliant, otherwise it would be a waste of money.

You can get the 40GB 5400 from Dell for around that price fairly often.

I just picked up the 40GB for $110 last month and know people who got in the $100 range.

I wouldn't spend $100 for a 20GB.
