The original tribes was the best game I ever played. Hope these remakes can get close to that style of play.

Tribes2 was the best game.

You never knew what you had unless you played ninja mod and placed custom force fields, blast walls, other objects.

Tribes2 was the best game.

The problem with Tribes 2 was the horrible launch. The game was extremely buggy, unstable, and patched almost daily. They even had patches to remove patches.

At that point it was just over... the player base just went elsewhere (I went to SOF2) because in the days of dial up (and entry level High Speed) that was just constant issues.

Eventually it became awesome, and what it should be... but the community was already too fractured by that point, and hence why future games either never got made, or got made poorly (Vengeance).

I'm looking forward to T:A, and seeing where the franchise goes if successful (Tribes: Universe sounds like it could be promising).

I will continue to miss shifter, though. I loved dropping Force Field/Blast Wall layers in the front of Broadside to keep heavies occupied, and constantly fixing them. Then we'd put laser turret farms all over the top entrance and you'd watch people drop in and never make it to the floor before dying.

Yeah,
To purchase the guarantee & VIP status, or not to purchase? lol

I'll probably do it anyways to be supportive and feed my "I've been playing since T1 was first released" ego.

The original Tribes had mods with a lot of stuff like that. I played on renegades and Havok servers all the time. I never got into Tribes 2. Played it for a few months but it never grabbed me like the original tribes. I was really disappointed with Tribes:Vengence as I felt it reclaimed some of the feel of the original. But the developers never supported it at all. It launched then they promptly said they wont release any patches to fix issues in the game wtf!

I'm seriously contemplating pre ordering this tonight for the closed beta plus other rewards. Its only $30.00 and I get other perks with it also.

I'd do it now but work blocks gamer sites.

seems like only two maps available so far, and no way of picking servers, it just does that for you automatically, but its a beta so whatever, we'll see what happens

and the new loadout system is pretty dumb, makes it way too hard to get a handle on all the weapons, although it does force interesting matchups. For instance the previous tribes games were notorious for having weapons that were hardly ever used, but this system sticks you with only two weapons and thus you're pretty much forced to use what you have instead of just always picking the weapons you like or are comfortable with

Been playing for a few hours and I'm really enjoying it thus far. Definitely one or two tweaks to be made still, but overall they seem pretty reactive to the community so hopefully they'll make the right moves. Hope they introduce some more maps soon, though, as I'm already getting... familiar... with the 2 there currently are.

after my initial reaction to the game, which was unfavorable, I came to love what I saw.

Even after my first play when I didn't come away too enthusiastic, one thing I thought they nailed was the movement, skiing is so wonderful in this game. I know there are some people (mostly Tribes 1 homers) who might not be too pleased because there are speed caps, but the caps are reasonable and quite high, the speeds I was able to achieve and even maintain as a medium armor were pretty awesome.

The loadout system, which I initially called dumb, has some real merits as it forces each class to be relatively unique instead of the old Tribes way where you could essentially create your own class. The problem with that freedom is that there's a distinct lack of balancing and thus we get some weapons and items hardly ever used.

Another thing that is really cool is the perks/skills system to level up your loadouts. Very minor improvements like +5% energy through a leveling tree or +10% skiing handling or +30% faster reloading of a primary weapon might seem insignificant alone but once you've completely leveled up a character (which will take quite a while) the cumulative difference from fully upgraded to stock can be pretty significant

But yeah, only two maps and only working on one load out the game was addictive enough for me that I spent the better part of the evening and well into night playing the only two maps available over and over again.

ultimately its little different from unlocking new weapons/gadgets in a game like Battlefield

don't like it in bf3 either to be honest. i'd prefer everyone to start out the same like some of the old school games. if you want to reward someone, give them different skins or something.

I don't know if you guys ever played the shaka mod for QWTF but they gave you a limited # of resources and you could put together your own character build. The resources were all the same so you could be different from someone else but you were all on the same level. Giving someone extra speed for playing longer is kind of lame imho.

They're planning on having a separate competition ruleset where everyone gets the same pre-defined loadouts (which are currently being worked out & discussed on the eSports forum).

Signed up, still no message about the beta

I played all the Tribes religiously, even Vengeance in which I absolutely loved the grapple and shield. The only problem was, new players were literally destroyed... with a grapple I could stay in the air nearly the entire match.

Surprised they didn't let me in the beta... made my own Tribes 1 mod, maps for T1 and T2 (http://planetstarsiege.com/balance).

Going by the forums, I don't even know if they've given out a round of beta keys any time recently, most people just pre-ordered. Probably their tactic to make some early bucks.

Dumb question. When I run out of ammo, how do I reload my guns. I'm not talking about an empty clip, but totally out of ammo, where do I reload?

Nm, i found out the answer.
