I have confidence in HiRez from a gameplay standpoint - they did a decent job with Global Agenda. They'd probably only need to make a few engine tweaks to allow for skiing and such and it would be fine.

What I do hope they improve on is their ability to create a decent UI - their interface in GA is absolutely woeful - badly-planned, cheap-feeling and confusing. Even after it was reworked, it was still pretty bad.

I never really had a big issue with the GA UI, seems to work fine for me...but others have shared your opinion and they did acknowledge it, making a pass at using Scaleform but it would have required redoing a ridiculous amount of man hours to go back and make it compatible. So, I am guessing that T:A will use scaleform and look pretty good.

Someone talked about Tribes Next in the comments... is that worth looking at? Looks to be free as well. I loved playing the original Starsiege: Tribes, but I lagged so badly.

Tribes Next is pretty much just Tribes 2 with multiplayer servers switched back on. Definitely worth taking a look.

Unfortunately it really is just a teaser, can't really tell much from that footage whether or not they're truly on the right track for weapon and player physics but it doesn't look discouraging.

The one super brief scene from the player's perspective flying into the utter chaos of other players flying around and explosions going off everywhere creating utter chaos in a FPS certainly is classic every-day Tribes that really few other games even come close to replicating.

It's Tribes damnit! If I am on Heavy Offense and suddenly the base is getting raped, I wanna switch out of my heavy gear and into my Base Repair gear, not get out my CC first, enter the requisite information, THEN play the game.

Second worst dissapointment of this year. First being the teasers from Planetside: Next, then nothing. Though there is apparently going to be some PS:N info at the SOE Fan Faire.

I still have and play both Tribes, About 500+ (Lost count) various maps for T2.
And as for T1, Still good action there.

The original Tribes remains my single favorite game of all time just for the sheer number of hours I logged in it and how much fun I had all the way. Meltdown Hell and Tribes RPG were my bread and butter mods. Tribes 2 was home to the fantastic Construction mod. <3

The point is, I really hope T:A supports mods in some fashion. I haven't browsed the T:A forums in a while so I don't know if that's been discussed (I'm sure it has), but modding is a big part of what gave Tribes its spirit IMO, and the biggest reason why I didn't like T:V.

I'm going into wait-and-see mode for things like the perks and MT systems. As much as I'd love to just see the original Tribes simply given a facelift, we're in a new era now.

Which is why I pretty much remained on light D/base repair.

Mods look unlikely as Hi-Rez will be running the game servers and are giving the game away for free. But they did say that they are looking into allowing players to create custom games/matches with an array of settings.
