Extreme n00b embarrassment here. My 1EEt system: "VL-601" (?) motherboard supporting a 266 Pentium ll "overclocked" to 300mhz, 16 mb Riva TNT vid card, two CD opticals including a burner, a Vibe soundcard, 192 mb of RAM, and a 13 gig, 7200 rpm WD HD, running Windows 2000 quite fast enough, thank you.
It has been working perfectly for over two years, but I somehow have come to need more disk space (go figure, right?). So I tried to install a second drive, a 13 gig Maxtor that was actually virgin as a slave to the WD drive. I believe I changed the jumpers on both drives to make the WD a master (from "sole drive") and the Maxtor it's slave.
When I went to reboot, lights came on both optical drives as the system seemed to go back and forth between the two looking for an OS. Nothing else happened. Neither hard drive spun up, no boot screen came up on the monitor, and there were no DOS trouble code beeps at all.
I tried putting a Win 98SE boot floppy in, but, as far as I can tell, the system never got to the floppy. I tried putting the Win 2000 disk in first one and then the other cd drive, but again, nothing, the exact same kind of nothing. I must admit that I no longer remember what boot sequence I had selected in the BIOS. But I can no longer access the BIOS anyway!
Oh, I also took out the Maxtor drive entirely and re-jumpered the original WD, and tried to boot, but, again, the same kind of nothing has occurred. The vid card and the memory and the proc all seem to be well seated (though I have not yet taken them out and re-installed them), but I get NOTHING on the monitor -- no boot screen, no error beeps, nada. HELP!!
