So who cares who reported it? So only certain people can report a crime?
She reported a thing said to HER about HER, you're arguing that the "I would you rape you if you were better looking" comment made to THIS WOMAN was what was threatening and criminally liable.
After that specific comment, and at no point earlier, did she say that he was committing and crime and that she would report him to the police.
Are you so daft that you do not understand the context of this thread?
It is quite funny how you only argue the literal.

The impression I get is that some people think "Facebook is not real life" - like it or not, it basically is.
This is going nowhere. To me it's completely clear based on the posts we've seen - the ones that Newton screencaptured - that there was no reasonable basis to believe this man was going to rape anyone or posed any other kind of reasonable threat to anyone's safety. That doesn't mean he didn't violate a law that holds people liable for intention to offend (it's obvious that he did and he admitted as much) It doesn't mean that he didn't say or do some other unknown thing that would have made him appear to be a threat, I can't comment on this. But the comments he made are not something I could see an argument for criminal prosecution over threatening nature, much less putting him on a sex offender list. He made the comments for the same reason this child I just met told me he killed my father just after I said he died - to deeply upset, disturb, and enrage the other person. Nothing is going to convince me that he announced in what was for all intents and purposes a public forum in front of several other people that he has sincere intentions to rape someone who just scolded him for making jokes about rape.
But it's obvious we're not going to agree on this so I'm not going to bother trying to argue it further.

Probably the most damming thing is his lack of remorse for the above actions.
I wasn't advocating that the guy from the OP should be put on the sex offenders register, I put it up as a hypothetical point because, as I mentioned earlier, I thought that a 3 year prison sentence was a bit much, and due to that opinion, I was wondering what I might consider to be an alternative option that a) hopefully deters such behaviour and b) is someone less life-wrecking and possibly more appropriate than a prison sentence. I should also point out that, at least under UK law that many sexual-related crimes do not result in a permanent entry on the sex offenders register.
Putting someone on a list that will lead a lot of people to assume or at least suspect that he actually has committed rape, sexually abused a child or possessed child pornography is not something I can advocate. I don't see what he did as a sex offense. There are already consequences to doing things like this; his comments were broadly publicized resulting in his employers being contacted (who, as expected, fired him) and I'm sure strangers contacted his friends and family as much as they could find them. Prospective employers will quickly find his name in a search and I don't think he's going to be on the table for working at women's shelters.
I thought you were said you were done with this topic.
We have a disagreement on a fundamental point that has a basis on whether there should even be a punishment for this yet you're still talking about it despite saying you were done. I completely agree with your reasons for wanting to walk away from the discussion, and my only reason for responding to your post was to clarify a possible misunderstanding regarding my opinion of what should happen to the guy from the OP.
Remorse for what? Maybe it's a generational thing, at 38 i'm getting to be too old for the internet.
When I was a kid, and someone beat me in a sport or laughed at me, I couldn't tattle to the teacher and get the other kid in trouble. Hurt feelings? So what, no real damage was done. Suck it up and move on- that is what I grew up with.
Actions which cause, at worst some hurt feelings, why should he feel remorse? He didn't cause any physical harm, or damage. He didn't cause monetary damages. He merely pissed off a few feminists, which aren't even really humans, so why should he feel remorse?

Hall (the guy who originally posted the Tinder image, and was not arrested) was fired. I haven't seen any reports of Alchin being fired from anything - did I miss something?
There is the side of free speech, and there is the side of "free speech unless it causes hurt feelings or offends someone"
You think facebook is real life. If anyone needs a lesson in humanization it's you.
Facebook is a very fake, filtered view of life.

You didn't miss anything, but I ran across this earlier and assume it's legitimate:

I'm a little skeptical, partially because he claimed to be drunk at 12:30pm on a Tuesday.. But it's certainly possible.
