Its obvious that you're incredibly superior to the men and women in uniform (past and present)....
One has to wonder how many grandfathers of this nations population had served in the military. Must've been the generation of idiots during WWII, eh?

he said generally. are you saying that it isn't true?

because in my home town the people who joined were the people who didn't have any particular skills that could make money and needed to do something with their life..most of those people also had parents who beat them..some of them were my good friends

my father was a marine for 20+ years and guess what..he was one of those people..wanted to feed the family and didn't know any other way but to sign up

the bulk of the military is made up of non-college graduates ...it doesn't surprise me in the least that they might not be as "smart" in that sense ..it doesn't mean that they are lesser human beings or anything of a sort

i think its hard for the right wing ideologues to accept that a very large portion of the military is made up of people who don't really care about all its bullshit messages, they just want a stable job...it doesn't support their rosy little image of the good little patriots marching around doing bush's bidding

Yes, I'm saying that isn't true. Who comes out of high school with "skills"? Also, having spent 6 years in the military myself, I don't recall hearing of your 'typical' people who had parents that beat them up.

Its frustrating to listen to some people generalize an entire branch of government because they believe themselves to be intellectually superior. Did it ever cross your mind that many of those people go onto college after their military career, attend while in....even those called officers that completed college prior to joining? Oh, and there are many classifications in the military that require training, believe it or not (electronics, telecommunications, mechanics, corpsman, musicians, nuclear operators, divers, specialized warfare, linguists, cryptography, finance, logistics, etc). And is attending college the only way that a person can become 'smart'?

And where in the heck did this bit of yours come from, Lumbergtech (below)? Does everything has to be about Dems and Repubs? Nowhere in my post did that come up.

I don't know about you, but I knew an awful lot of people who were in the military because it was a stable job. (and they were scared that they couldn't make it on the outside). There are certainly specialties in the military that require training, but the training is vocational and not particularly rigorous. According to the VA only one in five veterans go on to get a college degree, roughly 33% lower than the national average.

Oh and Zebo, stop being stupid.

EDIT: Corrected my math.

this is a hilarious attempt by the extreme right fascist Loser11!!!!! to find 'dirt' on Obama. So desperate. Nice to see that most of the troops sitting in the room had the cameras out to take a pic of their incoming CinC.

Poor winnar is trying so hard to not fade into obscurity by pulling up any little bit of conservative nonsense and claiming that it's news... it's so sad

Here, have something even better: troops giving a standing ovation for Obama and troops giving a lackluster greeting to Bush. And now I've one-upped you by providing TWO videos instead of one! This required maybe 5 seconds on google to find.
http://leftinaboite.blogspot.c...during-iraq-visit.html

There. Now can we let this retarded thread die? Winnar, I'm serious when I say this: seek help. Your hatred for Obama is irrational and slightly deranged. I don't like seeing people drift so far to one side of the spectrum. The next time you post a thread like this, take a step back and ask yourself this question. "Is this thread really news? Am I posting something that's actually interesting, or am I just slinging dirt towards a politician that I dislike?" I ask myself the same question when I post a thread regarding Bush or Cheney, and it really helps keep some crappy threads out of P&N. I hope you'll adopt my advice.

You're gaining a reputation of posting only crap threads, and that's not a reputation that you want. Eventually people will completely phase you out, and what if you actually have a good point about Obama some day? It won't matter, because you posted so many shitty posts in the past that people just started ignoring you. Seriously, you're becoming the boy who cried wolf every time you post this nonsense.

When a dignitary visits marines eating a holiday meal with family in a mess hall, etiquette probably follows something similar to dining in etiquette, albeit a little lower key. Exhibitionism, that is, the calling of attention to oneself with loud cheers or whistles, would likely be frowned upon and possibly a subject to a fine. Standard protocol would likely be to do what was described, subdued respect and standing at attention when their table was visited.

It's easy enough to find videos of Presidents (or President-elects) standing in front of a podium or making a PR stop addressing a crowd of military and getting an enthusiastic response. Find one of Bush (or any president even) in a marine mess hall, in more informal a face-to-face setting getting a loud response, and your dig at Obama might have merit.

OP, are you trying to suggest the troops are dumb?

The only ones who have suggested that are the lefties.

I suggest they have better judgment than the American public.

Apparently the troops are stupid, but the welfare bottom feeders who can't afford healthcare are geniuses.

I am not for censorship but your posts are over the line.

How is this any different then the majority of your dumbass posts where you rail on your perception of the wealthy (aka anyone that makes over 20 grand a year and holds a steady job).

On a side note, finding accurate polling results for the military vote is difficult. While in the recent past, the military vote has tended to lean Republican, it's thought that the military also follows civilian trends. If anything, the quick research I've done has found a couple of articles suggesting that the military vote is shifting away from the Republicans. It's interesting to note that one study found that troops deployed abroad gave 6:1 to Obama. "Although 59 percent of federal contributions by military personnel has gone to Republicans this cycle, of money from the military to the presumed presidential nominees, 57 percent has gone to Obama."

Barack Obama visited US Marines in Hawaii on Christmas.
...He was met with silence.
Political Punch and PL Forum reported:

President-elect Obama stopped by the Marine Corps base in Hawaii Kaneche Bay where servicemen and -women were eating Christmas dinner in Kailua Thursday evening.

?Just wanted to say hi, hey guys,? Obama said as he walked into the Anderson dining hall which was decked out in Christmas decorations.

The diners represented seven military units -- Marine and Navy -- some of whom were joined by their families for Christmas dinner.

As Obama entered the room, it was absent of the regular fanfare of cheering and clapping. The diners were polite, staying seated at their respective tables and waited for the president-elect to come to them to stand up.

And this picture is priceless:

Compared to President Bush, with video.

Damn, nobody even gives him any token applause. You can see that Obama is tremendously popular with these veterans!

The troops are tremendously forthcoming and eager to meet our current President, but not our next one. I wonder why.

Is there a name for the syndrome the OP is experiencing?

thanks Mr Kerry for your continued support of the troops.

I don't think Kerry would say something like that, this is just a 12 year old wanting to feel better about himself after failing the latest math test.

I'm not going to bother looking for an unoffensive link.....for those here that are liberally minded. Will just post one, but apparently you have forgotten Kerry's remarks already?

Why must everything be some kind of "syndrome"? This is as dumb as the constant BDS diagnoses.

Adolph Hitler was able to force his troops to obey him. We know where he ended up.

Real leaders are known and their men follow them with eagerness.

Liberals face an up hill climb. I?m thinking we will continue to see Obama slip toward the right. He won?t have a choice.

It's not the military's role to set our policies. It is only their role to carry out the orders of the commander and chief, who was elected by the civilian majority. I don't see how Obama "won't have a choice in slipping towards the right". Care to explain?

Hopefully, your soon to be ex-wannabe führer, George W. Bush and his criminal cabal of traitors, murderers, torturers, war criminals, war profiteers and utter incompetents, will be tried and convicted for their crimes against our nation and the world.

Your side will never be able to prove it, Harvey. You are also put on notice that we have a case against your "crew" (Blogo) before you even take the Oath.

By the way, Obama will be swearing on a King James Bible. That must really cause some hemmoroids to act up.

What atrocity was it, again, that Obama said the troops were committing in Iraq?

?I don't see how Obama "won't have a choice in slipping towards the right". Care to explain??

I will give you a name that explains the slide to the right, Rick Warren. Also, Obama will take the Oath of office swearing to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America using a King James Bible.

Take a moment to read those documents and see your Liberal champion fade away before your very eyes.

Obama is quickly sliding to the right. Before you know it, he will be calling for more troops.

I like that.

?FYI, Nobody on this side cares about either of those issues.?

I am glad that ?nobody? cares about those issues. That means we will roll unopposed over your champion on our way to another impeachment.

It's a great time to be an American involved in politics.

Mr. Obama so far has shown much greater respect for those documents than his predecessor.

Take more than a moment and read those documents again. They advocate social or politcal views favoring reform and progress, not views advocating the opposition of radical changes.

Obama is a Christian. Why would it be surprising that he takes the oath of office on a bible?

Just like FDR. And Hitler didn't have to force a lot of the troops to follow him, he inspired enormous commitment and loyalty in many, a less you right-wing fasicst could learn from.
