I bought stuff for a new computer yesterday and It's giving me a bit of a fit. Here's what I got: mobo is http://www.pcchips.com.tw/925lr.html cpu is a p4 1.8 4oo fsb, 512 ddr, maxtor 7200rpm 40gb. burner and cdrom. I put my the 40gb as pri master, old hd as slave on primary, cdrom is 2nd master and burner is slave. All pins are correctly set on drives, master drives are on last cable connector and slave in middle. First there are two cpu clock settings on mobo. 100m and 133m I can't find which is correct for this cpu. Right now it is at 100, I haven't changed it. When I first turn it on it beeps twice about 2 seconds apart, then the speaker makes a weird sound likd an old rotary phone dialing. memory checks ok, drives are recognized. First time I formatted and installed xp. During the install there was a message that a .dll was not copied correctly, I hit retry and it went forward, then it
happened again, same thing, different .dll. It finally installed and I was looking around in xp, looking in my comp to makesure drives were there and all, then I tried to back up some files from my old hd to cd and it restarted, got a blue screen I can't remember what the orig error message was, but I decided to reinstall since it had problems, now after it formats I get a blue screen "page fault in non paged area." SOmetimes on restart I get blue screen "no NTLDR"... I dnl'd a maxtor utility and the hd checked out ok. Right now I am using a maxtor utility to do a low level format on the drive, hopefully this is the equivalent as wd's writing 0's utility I have used in the past.
I would appreciate any advice/words of wisdom.
