Your claim was "It's consistently amazing to me how unwilling the GOP has been to craft a message that is palatable to a majority of the country. "

They literally had latinos in the primary field and other assorted well-researched candidates. They lost badly to the demagogue.

Right, so you're agreeing with me? The GOP was unwilling to craft a message that was palatable to a majority of the country as shown by the crazy demagogue winning. It's not that nobody who identifies as a Republican has such a message it's that the party rejects those messages.

No, they're perfectly willing & able to craft a message palatable to the majority of the country as demonstrated by the other candidates, just not to the majority of the party. Take note of the difference between the highlighted.

Uhmmm, they clearly aren't able to craft a message palatable to the majority of the country, as evidenced by their failure to craft a message palatable to the majority of the country in this election. Individuals in the party may be able to come up with them, but the party rejects them. You seem to be saying that the GOP is able to craft messages that it finds unacceptable. That doesn't really make sense; if you don't accept something, it's not your policy.

By the way, Trump's platform is almost indistinguishable from the platform of the other candidates in the primary at this point.

By "GOP" in your original sentence I took you to mean the party org and not its voters. The establishment candidates can certainly win against someone not terribly popular like clinton.

What you're clarifying now is that the party cannot field a candidate which can win with its base AND the general electorate. That can be easily solved with superdelegates which they simple implement as a private org.

By the way, Trump's platform is almost indistinguishable from the platform of the other candidates in the primary at this point.

But we're talking about the message. Marco Rubio isn't talking about mexican rapists and such in his speeches, he talks about the things you said they should talk about.

That's actually not an easy problem to solve at all. If the GOP implements superdelegates right now it will be seen by their base voters as a deliberate attempt to circumvent them. The party might succeed, but the base will lose their shit.

But we're talking about the message. Marco Rubio isn't talking about mexican rapists and such in his speeches, he talks about the things you said they should talk about.

And Marco Rubio would have been far more likely to win the election than Mr. Trump.

They'll lose their shit and swallow it back in time for the next election to defeat the next bogeyman.

Very possible! There is a nontrivial chance of them starting a civil war of sorts though. My thought would be that the GOP either does this immediately after this election to give people 4 years to get over it or banks on the fact that the Trumpkins are sufficiently chastened by his defeat and will be so desperate for victory in 2020 that they will be discredited.

I think they'll at least wait and see, but if it persists they might as well take the risk than a sure lose.

I'm still waiting for Pence's promised Sekrit Evidence that will exonerate Trump from the many groping reports....

"The Indiana governor, in an interview on "CBS This Morning," urged views to "stay tuned" for the proof."

I don't think that any of the other major candidates could have won against Clinton, anyway.

I'd be concern trolling if I said otherwise, kinda like some of the right wingers who go on about how Dems could have had Bernie because he'd be better. It's bullshit.

Repubs made a strategic mistake 8 years ago when they doubled down into the Teahad & obstructionism. They largely held on to the tax & regulatory advantages they'd gained for their wealthy donors but they failed to deliver to their base. They've promised things that they can't or have no intention to deliver. They can't deliver on abortion, for example, no matter how fervently elements in their base want that to be true. But they promise anyway instead of telling people the truth. They have nothing but bootstraps for people like TH & Jasper Texas in general. It's all FUGM, all the time. Don't got yours? Be ashamed, because you're morally inferior. You just weren't smart enough & didn't work hard enough, had de ebil gubmint taking too much of your money to feed the kids of that imaginary welfare queen baby factory somewhere near you. Blame them- don't blame the very nature of capitalism itself & the greed of those at the top.

We need to consider their pool of support from both ends. An establishment candidate like Rubio won't rile up the right side like a demagogue but evidently they hate clinton or such so much that they'll excuse any amount of character or whatever flaws to punch R anyway. Some might stay home but they really do hate clinton. Whereas Rubio has the distinct advantage is fighting over the middle which is what they really need to snatch the election. Trump is basically a case study on the size of that middle and what happens when they turn away in disgust.

Psst don't tell anyone but I think that I saw a couple of cows standing on a pile of it on a cattle farm.
The thing is, what good does it to claim something that is probably not true. Or, is it that Trump is very much in control of what is allowed to be said, and since he's obviously delusional, he's doubling down on shaming the victim as a strategy. I find myself thinking I'm in a fantasy, nobody with this many skeletons could possibly be the nominee of a political party.

It was the perfect storm. He blocked any attempt to look into his past by his campaign, not once but a few times.

I agree with you brother as those skeletons are thinking feeling people who were wronged by a man who doesn't feel like the law or anything else is applicable to him as he lives his privileged life out without a care until this storm blew in him unexpectedly. He's used to abusing and threatening to get his way and this time it has blown up in his face. It's about time the Republicans received a blow this strong to knock them down off their high horses.

Yes sir the do as I say and not as I do crowd. The Trumpster hasn't done anything in this life except to magnify his own existence without a care for those beneath him. Hilary has worked in public service for many years with the experience needed to run this country. Nobody is perfect and I don't agree with many things but when it comes down to the skill sets needed for the job she wins hands down. Trump needs to go home and keep his hands on his own wife.

In a speech today in West Palm Beach, Florida he said, “Our campaign represents a true existential threat.”

So far, so good, The Tangerine Shit Pile had that right. But, of course, he kept going:

This Presidential election is truly one for the ages.

But.....but....but didn't you Dems chastise the Donald for making fun of the handicapped? But it is ok for you to call the Donald a retard? Hypocrisy... much?

I don't think Perknose is "You Dems" also he didn't point at someone and say retard then act like a moron.
For the record Trump mocking that reporter was silly and childish but not offensive to me.
