So I know the core 2 duo mobile processors rock the turions but I am interested in the tx1000 (i think) HP 12.1 inch laptop. I comes with AMD processors. I can get a 2.2 ghz turion X2 for the price of a 1.8 or 2.0 core 2 in other systems (with the discount I get). The 2.2 ghz amd would beat a 1.8 and 2.0 core 2 right??

I think that a 2.2 Turion would be roughly equivalent to a 1.8 or 2.0 Core 2, but the biggest difference is that the Turion lacks the power saving features that the Core 2 brings to the table. My 1.83 Core Duo has never led me to desire more oomph from my computer, and my needs are generally fairly power hungry. I use Virtual Machines, encode, convert, and compress video, fiddle with Photoshop, and some 3D work. All (with the exception of the 3D due to graphics limitations) run smooth as butter on my computer.

I would recommend the Core 2 unless the Turion packs a better video card or other things that you desire more.

Lacks the power saving features? My understanding is that Turions do better at low processor utilizations while Core 2 has lower power usage at 100% utilization.

As for processing power, Turions are roughly equivalent to Core Duo, so yeah a 2.2 should match up decently with a 2.0 Core 2. You really shouldn't worry about it much, I agree that a 1.8 would be plenty unless you're some kind of hardcore photoshopper or something, games don't even need it since they're always GPU bound in laptops.
