I'm pretty good with using turn signals. In fact, I'm so accustomed to using them its pretty much second nature to me. I actually feel slightly uneasy, as if something is missing, if I don't hear the turn signal blinking before or while I'm turning. Weird, I know. But it makes me signal appropriately always-- even when there is no traffic around. Yes, I signal to turn in even when nobody is around. It feels pretty stupid sometimes, but at least its better to be safe than sorry.

I nearly always use my turn signals, except in a few situations. Such as when I forget my turn/exit is coming up, I'll still use the blinker but its usually only a second before I make the turn.

What bugs me are car horns. They serve no useful purpose other than to annoy. For example, I my apartment is on a four lane road, two lanes in both directions. I typically have to make a left turn into the complex. There is a left turn lane, but its only a partial lane, as its the opening part as you approach a nearby light, I'd say you have maybe 3 feet of left turn lane at most. So, as I approach the left turn, I'm in the left lane with my signal on, moved over as far to the left as I can without being in the oncoming lane. Simple logic would dictate one of three courses of action for traffic behind me. 1) Change to the right lane and pass the vehicle signaling for a left turn(me) or 2)If the right lane is not clear for a lane change, slow down until able to make a lane change, or 3) If unable to make a lane change before impacting the car turning left, stop and wait until either the car is able to complete its turn or you can change lanes and pass.

For some reason, this is difficult for a lot of people, who have tendency to stop inches from my bumper and honk their horn continuously until I complete my turn, where they then floor the gas, usually so they can wait at the red light about 200 meters away. I've had people also try to fit between my vehicle in the left lane and the car in the right lane. Motorcycles love to do this, but they can at least fit even if it is still illegal and stupid. I've seen 4d sedan's try to pull this stunt off.

This might more sense if I were to draw it out, but I'm lazy and tired now.

Although I'm usually driving like I'm fucking Mario Andretti, people riding with me always get when I signal or follow some other rule of the road, like yield signs... These douchebags also drive around in the rain with no lights, 90 in a crowded 55, etc. It's always best to just roll your eyes and ignore it; if I let half the shit I saw on the road get to me (I shit you not, there was a period of time where I couldn't get in my car without nearly getting in at least one accident before reaching my destination) what with all the geezers and dumb bitches on their phones on the road, I'd probably kill myself.

Not to stereotype either, but from my own evidence, the only "dick" things I've ever seen a male driver do that wasn't old to the point of it impairing their driving, was cut me off. The teenaged girls and the soccermoms are the ones doing all the stupid shit like merging into my lane and forcing me off the road, completely missing the concept of getting onto a highway where traffic is going 70 MPH (HINT: ACCELERATE TO AT LEAST FUCKING 70 MILES PER HOUR).

I fit right in with drivers in places that aren't Florida. Chicago was remarkably easy to drive in; some inconsiderate bastards, but nothing life threating like the dipshits in Florida. California just puzzled me, nobody, NOBODY, regardless of age, race, gender, penis or boob size, can merge onto the fucking highway. No one.

You may use your blinker, but from your post you reek of "douchebag driver".

Edit for stupid spelling.

Congrats on misreading that first sentence there. Those near accidents were not during periods of Andretti fever, nor were any my fault. I'm talking about people lane changing right into my car, running red lights and barely missing my car, etc.

I've noticed that people seem to have a strange obsession with flying up to a light and using brakes at the last minute. Last summer I was coasting up to a stop light, and the lady in the huge SUV behind me decided that I wasn't rushing to the stop light fast enough, so she swerved into the turn lane to the right, floored it, and cut me off, barely stopping in time to avoid rear ending the car in front of her and forcing me to slam on my brakes so I didn't rear end her. We then proceeded to wait for at least 30 seconds for the light to turn green. Had I been more on my game that day I'd have dropped my car back into gear and kept her in the turn lane, but somehow I think she wouldn't have figured anything out.

Flashing yellow just means to watch out as you go through, they don't have to stop. The flashing red, means STOP and go when safe.

What do you do when you are 200 feet from a flashing yellow, when you see it suddently change to solid yelow and on its way to solid red. Do you speed up to beat it before it switches to solid red, or do you stop. Oh there is an ambulance heading for the intersection, going perpendicular to you.

I use mine most of the time. However growing up in Los Angeles and regularly visiting there has taught me a very bad habit: I never use turn signals to change lanes.

Anyone who spends time on LA freeways will know why.
Gang shit? (live in the southeast u.s.)

Naw. If you signal for a lane change on a busy LA freeway, chances are (more often than not) someone will close the gap instead of let you in.
That's pretty selfish. Wasn't there something about signaling (or bright headlights?) and gangs ~10 years ago?

It was a myth.

But yeah, LA freeways are far from being known for having courteous, helpful drivers. It's more like a Roman Chariot race track.

Ever seen Ben Hur? That's what a morning commute is like.

It's not just LA. Similar stuff happens in traffic in the DC area. You signal to change lanes in rush hour and the gap will be filled before you can move over.

And so we give a rhetorical answer, tard Using a blinker is just a good idea all around, it being law as well is just icing on the cake.

And I really do hate people that turn/move over without blinking, and want to kill the ones that do so without even looking.

Some stop and wait till it stops flashing, some slow down like it's a school zone and (my favorite) two or three cars proceed after the one in front does.

I know in Arizona they have a lot of HAWK signals which are slightly different than regular traffic signals. They have two red lights side by side and a yellow light underneath. They are for pedestrian crossings. I'm not sure if thats what you have seen or not.

They turn 'em on to see their dash board, but they couldn't think that they can't see their dash because it's dimly lit outside and perhaps assisting others properly to see their car would be better. I mean, they literally had to go and turn on the parking lights... is it that hard to turn on the lights? It's one little tiny, insy-winsy turn of the thing on my car.

I have a Buick Century and the parking lights on that actually come on automatically.

That is the HAWK signal I mentioned in the earlier post.

That is one website that tells a little bit about them. There are lots more if you just do a search for "HAWK Signal."
