I can see everything on the TV and on the monitor: open windows, surf the net, pictures, etc.... however, I cannot see any videos (whether it's DVD, avi, mpg) on the TV... the video is blacked out. I've tried using VLC, ATI's various media players, and Window's Media Player.
Any suggestions?
Its because you can't play video using overlay on the secondary monitor, however to play back video on your secondary monitor:
ATI Full screen: Enable "Theater Mode" in CCC Video (advanced View) with the secondary display showing full screen video, you can enable it either in "Clone Mode" or "Extended Desktop", or you can clone it "the same on all displays" if you wanted windowed video on the secondary monitor (Cloned to the Primary)
Video software that supports Theater mode will now playback full screen on the secondary monitor, and you can minimise the application to the taskbar on the Primary.
Note:The software player must be using "Overlay" to render the video fo this to work.
For indvidual Programs to display video instead of using "Theater Mode" you'll have to configure the video renderer to use video mixing renderer, its not available or configurable in all software.
In Windows Media Player 10, go to " File>Tools>Options>Performance>Advanced" under "Video Acceleration" check the "Use high quality mode", and now under "DVD video" check the box "Use video mixing renderer" and uncheck "use overlay".
In ATI File Player
For file playback, ATI fileplayer uses Overlay, so you'll need to enable "Theater Mode" to watch it on the secondary display.
for DVD playback with ATI DVD player, "Theater Mode" is your best bet, however you can also try to enable dual monitor support for DVD playback within MMC configuration. I have issue with this mode at times.
Thats the basics. I can also give the settings for other softwares I'm familiar if you'd like help with something other than WMP10 or ATI file player.
