TV Tuner/Capture recommendation

My current system does have an old ATI AIW 7500. I'm planning to update that to a 9600 Pro, but I'm still thinking about the normal or the AIW version.

In another post, I was told that getting a good TV tuner that would last for several upgrades would be better, so what does everyone else think about that? Which would be a good option for going with that?

My plan is to use it for cable tv capture, VHS and Hi8 conversion to DVD. Practically everything the AIWs do, except for the 3D gaming accelerator.

Also, if there are any nice external options, would be good too (since that way I can either use my laptop or desktop to watch TV while doing something else on the other one)

never buy tuner as part of vid card. its a horrible waste of money whenever you upgrade video cards. i have tv cards from 5 years ago that still work fine in new pcs.

another option you might consider are the new hdtv tv cards which only run 200 dollars now. hdtv for 200 dollars is cheapest you'll find anywhere the quality is incredible, far past dvd. captures from that are amazing, if a bit harddrive intensive.

Get a 9600 Pro, then buy a Leadtek tuner.
