Tv Tuner Lag.

Hello.

I just reticently purchased a WinTV-PVR 150 tv tuner card (with media center kit), all was fine until i plugged my Xbox 360 into it and played a game. There is a 3 second delay (delay, not jittery internet type lag) between when i press a button and when that action happens on my screen, thus making it unplayable.

I have so far used the stock software (newest version from the hauppauge site), i have tried ChrisTV Lite, but it keeps freezing my computer while checking hardware.

Would anyone know how to cut this lag down to a manageable level through some system tweaks, or if there is better software out there that will cut this lag down a lot (be it free or not).

I am able to run BF2 on max settings without lag, i don't really see what would create this time delay.

Here is a link to WinTV-PVR 150 homepage, http://www.hauppauge.com/pages...ducts/data_pvr150.html

Thanks in advance if anyone is able to offer some help.

My system specs are:
GPU- x1950 XTX
CPU- AMD 3800 64 x2
MoBo- A8N32-SLI DELUXE
RAM- OCZ EL Platinum Rev 2. PC3200 2X1GB DDR400
HD- WDC SE 250 Gb, SATA 2 @7200rpm
Sound Card- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi
Tv Tuner- WinTV-PVR 150

Can I connect Video game systems to the WinTV-PVR-150?

Normally it is not recommended to use a game system through the PVR150 as there is a slight delay in the video processing.

However, you can make a change in the Registry that will attempt to eliminate the delay. This puts the WinTV into a Live Preview mode and does not go through the MPEG processing. To make this change, click on Start - Run and type in regedit. In the Registry editor, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hauppauge\hcwTVWnd

Locate a key called "LivePreview". Open Live Preview key and change it to 1, and close the window and try WinTV2000 again. (1=on, 0=off)

Tryed it, shaved a fraction of a second off the delay, still leaving a unplayable delay.

Doing some more research, i belive i made a error of getting a PVR type tv tuner and will try the ATI tv wounder 200.

i think this problem cannot be solved and happens to everyone playing a console through a tuner card.

Why not save yourself the headache and use a VGA cable?

Yea, you're definately doing your 360 a serious disservice by playing it on a composite connection through a TV tuner when you could be using a high def VGA connection instead.

You could get an external TV-to-PC converter (like the one im looking for right now).
you plug the Xbox to it, and it has a 15-pin connector which goes into your monitor.
when you switch it on, it "takes over" the monitor by overriding the signal from the PC so it acts both as a TV Tuner and external source (VCR, DVD, Xbox, etc.)

i saw one by a company named VideoHome for 100$, cant remember the name though...

Or these?

Use the winamp tv plugin. There is no lag and if the picture doesn't fill up the whole screen there is an option to stretch to fit. I use it when I play my Ps2 through my ATI tv tuner. My ATI has an adapter so you can input s-video or composite into it which does look better then an RF signal. I bought a RF adapter, that I later returned, when trying to get rid of the lag and maintain a full screen without black borders. The quality was less then composite.

PCI TV cards can feed the stream /directly/ into the graphics card's video overlay buffer. Lag is in the order of a couple of frames at maximum when the viewing application uses this mode of operation.

Delay in the order of seconds is usually because the viewing application is going through a disk buffer. Sub-second delays typically come from "advanced" CPU-driven deinterlacing and image enhancing filters.

So, if you use the simplest possible viewing application and turn off all the fancy filtering, you'll get totally playable almost-realtime action - no worse than, say, any modern CRT or LCD TV would do.

Try WMP classic. I'm not sure if you need K-lite codec pac or something, but with mine I can select TV in the file menu, and there seems to be no delay with my Leadtek TV2000
