Two Routers

I was having problems with my Netgear router losing connection to internet with a lot of nodes attached so I swiched out with a Dlink router and it seems to work fine. I have grown my farm a bit and now need to add a third switch. Would it be possible to use the switch portion of the router without the router section? Since I already have it in posession it would save me a bit to just use if for that purpose if possible.

Yeah, connect a regular port on one Router with a regular port on the other Router, use Crossover CAT5.

Leave the WAN port of the second Router open, disable the DHCP, filters etc.

sweet! I've got a wired and wireless, and the wired router I was hoping to connect to the wireless using a crossover, mostly for it's print server (SMC7004br? i think). I'll see how it works...

If there's an uplink port (most have them) then you don't need to go buy a crossover, just use the uplink on one router and a regular port on the other.

Many recent routers may not display an "uplink" port. However, all LAN ports have auto-sensing capabilities (auto MDI/MDI-X connections) to be used as an uplink port when connected to another switch/router's uplink port (not requiring a crossover cable). D-link DI-604, for example, does not indicate an uplink port, but any of the 4 ports can be used as an uplink port with a regular cable. Not all routers have this feature though.

i'm also having a problem with 2 routers. i have a simens router splitting the network internet connection coming from outside and upstairs i have a new Dlink 614+ router trying to break up the connection again to a wireless and wired network upstairs to 3 computers. the internet sharing seems to be working great except i cannot figure out how to configure the router/windows to share drives on the network properly. the computers that are not attached to the dlink router can do everything fine except see and access the computers on the dlink router. the computers are all set to the same Workgroup and everything. but i still cannot access correctly at all. any help is appriciated.

anybody get the print sever thingy to work with two routers?
I got two routers now my wireless linksys router is now my main router that connects to cable modem
my old smc baricade 7004br is only used for the print server...
I have both set up pretty much defult dchp and stuff..
cannot get my print server I think it has to do with the dchp or dynamic assignment of ip but cannot really figure it out..
