View of object approaching. Aircraft makes some engine noise but nothing as loud as a jet. It moves at the speed of a prop plane.


View from below. Every once in awhile it blows a “smoke ring” though the smoke looks more water vapor.

I don't know. It wouldn't have to be civilian though. We are close to an air force base and Ft. Huachuca where drones are tested.

It's always sort of puzzled me - why even huge commercial jets have headlights. I mean, if something is on the runway, whether taking off or landing, how are those going to help? I know that they have brakes, but going either way, for most of the run they're pretty much useless. Maybe there are some situations where they might be useful. I assume the reason jets have them is primarily to reduce the amount of runway they need to land. And sure, they're definitely useful in that situation. But I think jets come in at somewhere between 150 and 200 mph. I also assume that in other countries, airport runways might not be well lit. But for the vast majority of the time, if a jet is heading for something, it's gonna get smushed. Well, or it's going to take out the landing gear.

On landing, they also use the thrust reversers. So while on the ground, the brakes really only help on landing and they're already being used in that situation.

Oh, so the point was, that's what you're seeing. The reason you're getting the halos is probably, very high humidity.

Surely you've seen a meteor shower before. They leave a very, very slender trail that disappears almost immediately.

BTW - Halley's comet is what you had in mind. I don't know when it was first spotted, but it was a regular visitor to inner solar system (70 years maybe?) for a very long time. I feel cheated that it chose to die in MY lifetime. I want my money back.

I am reading the “Backyard Starship” series right now. Just got to a part where they were flying their ship around earth and were spotted. They called it a “UF-oh shit” experience because that is what people say when they see a UFO. 😂
