My mother lost her job a few years ago(they moved to Brazil) and now is in school. My father works as a cpa but the firm does not offer health insurance. Right now we pay around 800/month for all 3. We have somewhat low deductible, eye and dentist coverage. But that insurance is about to end and we looked into getting new insurance. Since my father cant get it at work its going to cost a ton. We had quote of 2400/month with no eye or dental and huge deductibles.

Is there anything else to look into so i cant tell my parents?

The standard ATOT responses judging by the opinions in the universal healthcare threads would be: "Tell your parents to stop being lazy and get a good job because this is America, land of the free! Of course your family doesn't deserve healthcare if you can't afford the $2400 a month!!"

You should of looked into saving your money for health insurance rather than buying your super computer.

Your dad might be able to purchase health insurance through any professional organizations he is a member of. They're also co-op type things that offer it (there are PPO's I believe). You can also look into HMO's if you're desperate.

That has little or no relevance to what the OP is asking. $800 and $2400 is a significant difference.

So get multiple quotes, meet with an agent to get the insurance wanted at the price offered. There's more to this than you're explaining, like what kind of care/illnesses are involved?

it does. it's called prioritizing.
it sucks but that's life. blame the us healthcare system, or lack of.

$2400/month though? That's $28,800 a year. Plenty of people don't even make that kind of money, much less have the ability to pay it with enough left over for other priorities, like a house and food.

And the cost of that "super computer" would have paid for one, maybe one and a half, months of that new insurance premium. Big deal.
