My point is that the only real reason that I can see them using that rating system when 99% of the packages will fall into "Not testing by Mint but believed to be safe." is so that they can point the finger at Ubuntu when an update breaks something.
Strawman fallacy!

Can you point me to where this has ever happened?!?!?

I love this comparison!

No, but that's the only valid reason I can see for having such a rating system when 99% of the updates don't come from you.

But even there was some other reasoning behind it, that doesn't take away from the fact that they're doing a ton of extra work making their own distro when they could just be a part of Ubuntu like the mini-distros I mentioned earlier.

Dude!

You need to seriously apologize for this comment!

I would never vote for a socialist (Obama)/idiot (Biden) ticket.

Sorry, Dude! Really!

Your comments sounded like 'blue sky thinking' and I figured you were a lib.

My bad...

Modelworks recommendation for Fedora is a gimme, especially since I know it will also support PPC.

Never heard of Mint though... I'm interested.

I'm typing this on Linux Mint so you know my answer ,anyway more info here between Mint and Ubuntu link .

When I installed Mint first time I used Live CD option (allows you to run Mint via CD without install including net connection too) to see how it would work on my old PC, it had drivers for everything including my Belkin wireless Nic, wireless mouse, wireless keyboard, sound etc.. anyway I liked it so went full install after a play with the Live CD.

Its easy to get into for those Microsoft windows users ,so I would say more friendly then some of the other Linux operating systems around.

LoL! I'll never forget...

When I first started playing around with Mint 6 (a few months ago) a known Ubuntu zealot was walking behind me, so I said, "Hey, check this out. It's called Linux Mint."

He stopped, walked back a couple of steps, and squinted at my screen, over the top of his glasses. "Nice Windows clone," and he walked away.

I've never asked him about it, but I don't think he meant that as a compliment...

Anyway, yes, Mint is a nice Windows 'replacement' - or close enough!

Yeah, I know... it's a stupid name, but...

The South Africans have sunk $20,000,000 USD into it, with no chance of ever recovering their investment, so...

Let 'em call it whatever they want, you know?

LoL!

It doesn't sound as bad a Puppy - my all-time favorite stupid name... closely followed by Easy Peasy

EDIT

I was just thinking, Microsoft (great name) has come up with some stupid names too... Windows?!?!?

Thank God they didn't continue down that road, like Ubuntu.

Can you imagine if they would have called Windows 6 (aka Vista) Warthog? Oops, that was the first Ubuntu release...

Then again, maybe it would have been an instant hit!

End of the day its what you prefer and are comfortable with, since they are all free anyway you can try how many you like ,bottom line we all have different needs.

But they didn't call it Warthog, they called it "Ubuntu 4.10", Warty Warthog was the codename. Vista's codename was Longhorn which wasn't any better or worse IMO.
