There is always moissanite, it is just below diamond in the hardness scale, but has greater fire and lustre and is 1/10 the price of a diamond. Look into it ASAP!

Laugh all you want, but I'm in trouble. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO GET HER. I know she wants jewelry, and probably some kind of ring. I just don't know what kind of ring. Here are the things I picked up on:

She likes real gold.
She likes diamonds.
Uh, just real stuff.

Okay Ferengis, find the best deal on a some kind of jewelry I can get by January 11th. HELP NOW. MUSH.

Considering your $100-200 limit... I'll hazard a guess and say you're not loaded and it sounds like your gf might be high maintenance?

Well anyways I think EvilYoda's advice was sound. If you're determined to get jewelry for her I'll echo the comments about going to a non-chain jewelry store. They might have more quasi-unique pieces, when I say quasi I mean pieces you're not going to find in a normal chain jewelry store. Give them your price limit and take a look at their pieces and then haggle.

With your price limit I would say your max is $150 and then if you need to save the extra $50 if theres a piece for $200 but not lower. Your limit is going to make it rough no matter what kinds of stones.

A good non-jewelry start would be candle-light dinner and flowers. If you dont know how to cook but learn and make her fav dishes or something thats tasty it'll be a plus. An appointment for a day spa wouldnt hurt either. Another thing you might be able to do but I kind of doubt it since you've been seeing only for only a year would be to give her a big ass present box filled with smaller presents. These smaller presents would be attributed special times you spent with her. Like something from the first time you met, something of her favorite color, something she likes (maybe she likes stuffed animal lions), a bottle of the after-shower spritz stuff that you always smell on her, perfume, something from a possible getaway you guys spent together, dvd of her fav movie, maybe a picture frame with a photo of the couple etc.

Ultimately it amounts to you using your imagination

Diamond Earings can be found under $100 and you can get some nice ones around $200. They're diamonds and you don't have to worry about getting the wrong size.

DUDE. Don't spend that much. Seriously. I don't want to see a thread on here in a couple of months entitled "That B#$&^!! I spent 200 bucks on her!!"

My girlfriend and I (3 years) always make dinner and dessert together and then have a "romantic", or comfortable evening at home. No gifts, not until the bigger anniversaries.

I wouldn't spend an arm and a leg for a girlfriend of 1 year. I mean, that's a long time... but in 2 months you could be seperated. (sorry, but it's true. ) probably buy her some sort of ear-rings or a pendant or necklace. i wouldn't go ring just yet.

Another vote for earrings. They can be worn with just about anything and they're pretty reasonably priced.

its only 1 year, get her a gift basket (don't laugh, they make some really nice ones that I wouldn't mind recieving), those run about $25-xxx depending on size and what you get inside it. they sell them online and it can be delivered to your gf's door. save the expensive stuff for further down the road.

Ask her what she wants. That always works for me - ask someone what they want for whatever occasion, and get it for them. They get what they want then.
(Though I will admit that I've not done this for any anniversaries like this - just birthdays and Christmas.)

Just keep in mind that by getting something "nice", you're setting the bar pretty high for yourself. With a girl, anniversaries/bithdays/Christmas/Valentine's Day all generally present the expectation that you out-do yourself. Don't you think that in the future, you'll feel pressure to get her something nicer than what you get her now? I'm not trying to dog you, but in the grand scheme of things... one-year dating anniversary isn't that huge of a milestone.

Just trying to offer a different perspective.

Gifts like gold, rings & diamonds/gems within the first year, IMO, is moving a little fast. You two should appreciate just being together. Its hard for people these days to actually find someone and last more than a few months let alone a whole year!

Small gifts like a card and maybe a dinner out with a movie, a gift certificate for a salon session, or spa that sort of stuff to show her you care and want her to feel good about herself and you. Gold says you want more from her that she's giving to you, if she asked for it that's hallow, rings (to me anyhow everyone is different) to me are a symbol of eternity. Diamonds, wow if you can afford gold and diamonds with in the first year kudos to you in 20 years if you are still together!
