Ulta DMA 100 on KT7A

FOr the life of me I can't tell if I have UDMA100 active on my KT7A and IBM 46GB hard drive. I looked through the KT7A manual, but it wasn't all that clear to me. I'm running Winme, and when I went to device manager and checked the properties on the hard drive it was set for Int 13 and the DMA check box was unchecked. I already installed the via 4 in 1 drivers after I loaded WINME. If I check DMA will I have ATA 100 support?

when the computer loads up you will see another screen right after the memory check. that's where you enter the ATA-100 setup by pressing the <CTRL-H> combo. here you can check if your HD is connected at ATA100.

i'm running an thunderbird 900 and WinMe on the same board. so i'm sure you'll see it. good luck

Thanks for the heads up, <Ctrl H> jeez, am I blind and just didn't notice this in the documentation? I'm running a Tbird 900 too - you do have the KT7A NON RAID right?

actually it's a KT7 with RAID. the only difference between the two is that the A stands for the KT133A chipest that supports the new 266 FSB. Unlike mine, which only is the KT133 that only supports up to 200. the <Ctrl H> gets you into the ATA 100 menu. on the RAID version, all support is in this menu too.

If you're not running the RAID board, I'm not sure how to go into WinMe and see if it's running in UDMA mode. I want to say that if you have set up your HD's in the BIOS, that it will show up there as to what mode they're running in.

Run HDtach and check the burst rate: ATA100 should have burst rate somewhere between 66 and 100.
