lol. Ok calm down everyone. I just wanted to see what you fools out there with your i7 XX could come up with. but I was impressed that someone did catch this:

Some impressive quotes:

Yea, look at his post history. He obviously knows a little something,
You caught me there.

seriously, No one in the history of the computer hobby has ever been able to show off to, impress, or get laid with their hardware.
ROFL. This is 100% true though.

Why are you looking at Xeons then if singlethreaded performance is top priority?
Someone was actually thinking. But the person who suggested the supercomputer consisting of 2.0 ghz nodes wasn't really thinking.

Nope - the lithography is 45 nm AND the cache is not unified. Higher frequency but deeper pipes so Won't match i7 Clock for Clock though.

because people can blow a lot of money without their build making any sense, like buying a 3960X over a 3930K "just cuz"
The best quote in this thread so far. Period And that's what I was trying to get across. Within small amount of time, I have come across some huge dumbass questions on this so called "Anandtech" forum such as "when is the best time to buy ssd". Use your own head and figure out when YOU think is a good time for YOU to buy an SSD. Do you have a job? Can you afford one now? Are you unhappy with the hdd you have?

Cheers.

Xeon straps are locked so no overclocking

OMG, you'd pay $5000 for no overclockability. :\, IDK, i guess you could run 20 instances of BF3 server, at least that's cool, though you'd probably have to sign up for that FIOS business service for $250 / month

LOL why do you have 2 rigs that are almost identical.

But yea, no point for you to upgrade unless Haswell blows everything outta the water.

Anything you buy today would be a side grade from where ur standing.

to whom?

seriously, No one in the history of the computer hobby has ever been able to show off to, impress, or get laid with their hardware. :\

I've never been impressed by anyone's computer, all they've really done is throw some money down, and tightened a few screws,, real impressive.... please....:hmm:

Best thing said so far. If you want to impress people. build a new cpu, or gpu.

The guy who posted this thread needs to tell us what he wants this computer for. If its for gaming or business use? How much storage he needs, how many screens he will be running. We need better details!!! Everyone is giving their 2 cents, because they think thats the best build and it probably is, but only for what they would use the system for.

The worlds fastest computers would be useless to the everyday person. They would cost far to much to run and take up to much space. So lets be realistic here.

I was just looking for someone to say this

And this:

[/QUOTE]

Now back to seriousness. Honestly, I don't need any help with any computers. Like I said I just wanted to see what you guys could come up with. BUT, I am working on an assembler for an LC-3 Harvard Processor. The design phase is complete and I have the gates put in (they are in the phase lab in my University). If anyone here has a solid understanding in Assembly coding and CPU Design - send me a pm if you want to work together.

Yeah.

X79 Mobo
3930K (OC to 4.5 or more)
670/680SLI
2X Sata 3 SSDs in RAID 0
16gb 1600mhz RAM
1,000watt PSU

No cap on cost... go with 3960X, ASRock X79 Extreme 11, two GTX 690 in SLI, two 512GB Vertex 4 in RAID-0, four 1TB Velociraptor in RAID-0, G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 64GB DDR 2400, and an AX1200 PSU.

That should do it.

Would you argue that a 670 that is only $15 cheaper than a 680 be not really worth it? Just pay the $15 to get the 680. Also does 690 support 4x SLI? That would be absolute max.

A GTX 690 is already 2X GTX 680s. You can't go more than 2X GTX 690s.
