Underclocking????PLEASE HELP ME =(

i have an AMD AthlonXP 1700+, kg7-raid and when i have my clocked at stock (1.47) it would freeze everytime i watched a video, played a game, or had something with noise. it is now clocked down to 1.1ghz and no freezes, but i want my 350mhz!!! someone help me. when it freezes the sound loops

did you try upping the core voltage a tad? it can increase stability, somewhat.

Do you have a decent heatsink on it? Was the temp getting hot at Default speed? (your MB should have come with monitoring software, if not you can get MBProbe).

Perhaps your memory timings were a bit too aggressive?

Final idea is that your PSU may not be putting out enough juice (although I never personally had this problem - my XP ran fine with a cheapo PSU).

If I was in this situation, I woudl first try to determine if the problem was with the cpu or with the memory, or with something else. Putting the cpu in another motherboard would determine if the cpu was the limiting factor. Next would be the memory.

The KG7 has been around for a while and the BIOS may be old. It may have been compiled befoer 512 MB DDR RAM chips were widely available. There was a BIOS release dated 8/10/2001 that says on their web site: "Improve the compatibility of the DDR SDRAM" I would give that BIOS a shot.

My shuttle runs more stable with the cpu voltage set at -.75 (1.66 volts). I'm still able to run the fsb at 138 with the memory timings set to manual and 4 bank interleave enabled. Also, if you have more than 1 stick of ddram, try setting the dram command to 2T.

Since you have good ram, your PSU is your next culprit.
I have a simmilar setup

XP 1700+, KR7A-Raid, Micron 256 2100 DDR, Enermax 350W

Before I was using a generic Elixer RAM and a L&C 250W PSU. The system crashed even under screen savers!! Switched to an enermax, and micro and now rock solid.

Then don't flash it ::shrug:: Your computer, you could use it as a paperweight if you wanted to . . . I'd personally rather get what I paid for though.

1. case & CPU temp both idle & f/load ?
2. Wht is the watt of ur PSU.
3. If possible, teh current voltage on the 3.3v, 5v & 12v rail reading...both idle & f/load.

Do the Abit KG7 hv a jumper on the mobo to set the correct FSB of the CPU. Most mobo hv a jumper tht set default FSB of either 100 OR 133 FSB. Check the manual & post back.
