Unusual Power On problem

Just a small problem I've been having with one of the computers...it suffers from random acts
of not starting up. One day I will restart the computer and it won't come back. By that I mean, it hangs in a sort of stasis
between power going to the components and the motherboard. No BIOS or video, just spinning of fans and Hard disks.

Its an AMD Athlon system. I've solved this problem through sheer luck 3 times before, it just decides to actually
boot for some reason. What do you think? Faulty power supply?

It looks like the PS isn't sending a "power good" signal to the motherboard telling it begin booting up. Not entirely sure, it doesn't
explain why its so random.

I would try a new "quality" power supply like one from Antec, Enermax or Sparkle. Make sure it's at least 300watts and try things again. I would almost say that there's something faulty with your current psu. It doesn't seem to be getting enough power to power up the other components. Maybe the mobo isn't getting the juice and it's a bad connection from the atx connectors. If the fans are running off of the mobo, then it might be getting power, or it might just be enough for them and not enough to power up the machine.

I would say that it's a connection problem with your psu or just a faulty psu. What kind is it and how old is it?

Its a 350W, generic. Its 9 or 10 months old. All other components power up and "work" expcept the motherboard it seems. I've actually tried unplugging everything except the power to a few fans and the motherboard, still hangs. So I don't think the PSU is actually overloaded.

I also replace the Power suppy with one from a AMD 450Mhz (less power) same problem occurs with only power to the motherboard.

Any ideas on what could of happened to the motherboard? Its an Iwill KA266, next modo I buy will be from a more reputable company =|
