What is the real world difference between these models? Thinking of picking a 780 up..but will hold off if the new model coming out is significantly better

I don't know if NV will allow MSI to offer unlocked voltage in the lightning.Otherwise I don't see how MSI can further differentiate them.

Seeing as the EVGA 780 classy voltages are locked at 1.35 I assume this will be the same for the lightning.

Yeah I think so.But MSI did offer an exceptional 680 lightning which offered unlocked voltage.

I was just thinking about that also. I don't know if nvidia decided they cover EVGA cards if they limited to 1.35v or not. When Jacob originally said something about the 780 he said there would be no EVBOT support due to the nvidia not giving a warranty on anything over their approved voltages. MSI just doesn't really care and eats the cost of RMA

IIRC it's all due to NV Green light program, you can either opt for it or pass. But non conformance probably has a steep penalty.I believe NV is doing this just to maximize their profits, not offering unlocked voltage on lightning is a crime.

Is there any hard evidence or repercussions for passing the Green Light program? I guess AIBs are just too cheap to pay for kaputt dies themselves.
