there are plenty of employers that do not screen.

if a job comes down to the quality of my urine specimen and not my work references and education it simply isnt worth my time.

Most common + drug test in the community I work at THC (marijuana) its gotten to a point that I am sometimes look at it as normal.

dont trust that site that was linked about false positives, they are obviously selling something and will prey on the uneducated folks.

I mean Ibuprofen causing a false + for THC this is a joke. (urban legend to say the least)


check this site out and stay away from sites that try sell pass your drug test kits (they are abundant)

could be something you drank, like those sobe drinks they have creatinine if you drink quite a few of those your creatinine level goes up and it shows up in your urine. could me many things from some over the counter drugs you've been taking or some vitamin supplements for body building if you're doing anything of that sort. you can ask them for your results.

Let this be a lesson to all of you. If you have to pee in the bottle make them devide it into 2 samples and seal one for future testing. Then you can pay for a test readout and get good results.

Man I got so f@cking high last year that I didn't even know where I was (please use towelie's voice from South Park). Now random drug tests are the norm. Now I don't want to be so high that I play the tune to funky town and lose my job.

I'm with ncircle. I've never pissed in a cup to get a job in my life. Despite the fact that I know I would test negative, if I threw my resume down on the table and they asked for a piss test, I'd walk out the door.

I had a drug test for a software engineering job at IBM. I don't really see the harm in doing it esp. if you know you'll test negative.

Many tests come up positive and are due to OTC meds, Foods, Medical Conditions. Employers and the testing companies know this. Don't stress it unless you get any negative feedback from the employer. If the employer brings it up then you have a right to know by your HR department what you tested positive for.

From your post, SOMEONE told you that you pi$$ed hot. 99% of the time, the testing company can't tell you by contract they signed with the employers. SO I assume you were notified by your HR department or manager. You were either just told you tested positive and not to worry about it or you were told that disciplinary action would follow.

If they said not to worry, they had to disclose your positive test but know that you probably had a false positive. If they said action would follow, you have EVERY right to be informed of what you tested positive for and to be tested by another lab. If they take action against you then you need to secure an atty to fight.

As a side note to all the "invasion of privacy" folks.... Blame the insurance companies and people that are on drugs while at work and costing the company $$ due to poor performance or neglect.

Retest: PASSED!!! (I took another drug test the next day)

I knew those bastards where lying pieces of poop. Forget those dumbarses (no names). After all what they have out me through I just said forget it.

I'm going to find a part time job to fill my afternoons until the new year.

Does Best Buy require a drug test for new employees?

Sorry, but it's none of my employers business what I do on my own time. Period.

As long as I come to work, do my job and do it well, what I do on my own time should not matter.

How can it be any other way? It's such a blatant violation of privacy... how did it even become acceptable?

Youa re indeed correct most of the drug screening is directed at the lowest paying jobs.........does anyone know of ANY drug screening for surgeons or any other physicians? Nope, there isn't any, and this is a segment of the working population with one of the highest alcohol abuse/drug abuse problems out there. But since the AMA is such a powerful lobby, there isn't any mandatory drug screening or anything.

You know it's sad that MD's are left out of this when an anesthesiologist is found passed out in a bathroom after intraveniously injecting Innovar, a quite powerful anesthetic agent......gets you high as a kite if done in the proper dosages. Said MD was, admittedly, quietly asked to leave this specialty. But he was allowed to move to another area of medicine and no public note was ever made. Was an "internal" thing.

The AMA actually does keep records of doctors that get caught abusing drugs, alcohol, and even malpractice convictions. But forget ever accessing those records......."It'spersonal and confidential information" is all you ever get from them. Personally, I'd like to know if MY surgeon, the person who'll be slicing and dicing inside you, has a history of sloppy practice or drug problems.

Lawyers are another group that will never be subjected to this intrusion. But you entrust him/her to be sharp and on his/her game when defending/prosecuting in court. Who knows if that lawyer, that you're paying incredible amounts of money to, is stoned during the case.

Money, power, influence all will tend to shield and insulate those that should be held to the highest standards........and the lowest rung of the job market have none of that. This is one reason why the entry-level jobs always screen and the ones, most anyway, who have the jobs that have the most impact over other's wellbeing are fairly exempt. airline pilots are not routinely screened, only when someone "smells" something on their breath or some such nonsense.

As far as where did this employment drug testing come from? Thank the Republicans.....started in the early 80's when Reagan instituted screening for Federal employees that was upheld by the Supreme Court in 1986. It's since spread to private employers who the Supreme Court has since said are not held to much of any standard for privacy invasion issues.
