Upgrade from a 5770 to...

I've got a AMD 5770 that's getting a little long in the tooth for current games. I'm looking for a replacement, but I don't need anything spectacular... just something more current and better equipped for moderns games. Looking at my specs below, this will be going in a HTPC case so it can't be an overly "hot" card, or anything too noisy. My Lian Li has (3) fans and plenty of circulation but I'm thinking external exhaust on the graphics card is probably ideal.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the R9 270 for this purpose? I noticed they can be had for sub-$200 and come with a free copy of Battlefield 4. I assume this would be a nice upgrade coming from a 5770?

Thanks for reading

An R9 270 is basically a rebranded 7850. It is a lot faster than what you have.

However, there are not any reference blower design cards that I can think of. So you may be stuck with an open air cooler. Although it is not an especially hot card, so I think you would be ok with that case.

Also, its about the most card you want with that older CPU that you have. And I would not expect to be able to play more than 32 player games in BF4 with that CPU. Even 32 player games is going to have frame drop.

OP R9 270 is ideal for small case. the R9 270 has 150w TDP. so should do fine even in a HTPC case. get ASUS R9 270 DCII OC. 975 mhz clocks. perf on par with HD 7870. more than 2x the perf of a HD 5770.

"The Asus card meanwhile almost requires a new chart of its own just to put it in perspective. Asus has been impressing us lately with their DirectCU II coolers, and this is one example of why. 38.5dB is quieter than half of these cards at idle; that’s how quiet Asus’s 270 is. The HIS card can’t match it, and even the lower powered open air 5770 can’t match it. As far as open air coolers go, Asus is approaching the pinnacle of performance here, fully exploiting the advantage the design offers, and making their 270 significantly quieter than the GTX 660."

Thanks for the quick replies. Right now NewEgg doesn't seem to be offering BF4 with the ASUS but hopefully that will change when I'm ready to order.
