Also, what's with the triple-channel kit of memory (3x2GB)? Isn't that CPU/motherboard dual-channel? So an extra 2GB stick of RAM would give you proper dual-channel 4x2GB.

I mean, i have 1500, and i should go for a card that is a touch better than the 460? no CPU upgrade?? when does the ivy come out??

A 6950 is a bit more than a "touch" better than the GTX 460. :awe:

You already have a pretty good machine. IF you drop $1500 now on a full system upgrade, you'll be disappointed.

EDIT: You can also get an SSD, which will make your general apps fly. A good 120GB SSD like the Corsair Force 120 is about $230.

Pickup a Logitech G27 Wheel or something. Might as well get stuff you don't have, but always wanted.

Oh okay, so another SSD, is the speed of the corsair considerably faster than my OCZ? HAHA a logitech G27 lol i dont play any racing games at all. I just...got a new great job, and i have alot of surplus lol and just am bored lol right now...so i thought a machine would be a fun project. just gonna get a new GPU, a screen, and perhaps a new HSF instead of the stock on the CPU.

AND would getting a better graphics card be overkill?? than the 6950??

as far as GTX 570 vs HD 5970.

I was reading some reviews and many of cards seem to have over heating problems, any brand?? or any FANBOYish...idea's?? on which card i should go with. i got the MSI GTX 460, which i have to underclock now, or it crashes(which is annoying) just wanna make sure i get the best card.

Also, what makes that monitor the best for that price range? the Dell U2311H, what sets that apart?

Also about water cooling, my room gets EXTREMELY warm due to the fact my tower pumps heat out like crazy. Is water cooling a possibility, or much too expensive?

OP; honestly it sounds like you're just trying to spend money because you have it. Nothing wrong with that, but here's what I would suggest.

1) Stick with your current mobo/cpu/ram/ssd for now.
2) Sell your GTX 460, and buy either an HD 6950, or GTX 570.
3) Figure out how to adjust your TV to display 1080p properly, or buy a real monitor.
4) Wait for Ivy Bridge to come out and spend the money you saved.

Oh and if you really want to change the aesthetics just get a new case. Coolermaster, Silverstone, and NZXT all make nice cases.

A Sandforce is actually quite a bit faster than your Indilinx. Whether or not it's $230 faster I dunno, but you really seem to be itching to spend money. :awe:

I hope you mean 6970. Both of those are faster than the 6950, but not by a whole lot.

Also, what makes that monitor the best for that price range? the Dell U2311H, what sets that apart?

It's an IPS panel, which means that the colors and contrast are going to be excellent compared to most TN panels. Note that your TV is probably a PVA or MVA, which isn't as bad as TN, but there is a large variation in TV panel quality as well.

Fun fact: Water cooling doesn't change the laws of thermodynamics. What I mean by that is that your system is going output a certain amount of heat and the mechanism for removing it from the CPU/GPU isn't going to change that fact.

Your room will still heat up though.

Okay, I think im gonna go with the GTX 570, unless the 5970 is much better price.

AND any brand specifics??? that you guys may know?

Or what about getting another 460, and going SLI...that looked faster on benchmarks...But i could be very wrong haha.

If I were you I would just go for the 570. The dual 460 may be theoretically faster, but dual GPU setups often have other problems you don't want to contend with.

Sorry buddy, physics just doesn't work that way. Your room will heat up by the same amount whether you're doing air or water cooling.

 I agree.

For 1080p yes a 580 is overkill, but I guess it depends on what price your getting. As far as brands there really isn't much difference other than warranty. EVGA tends to have the best warranty, but most will cover you for at least 3 years. The only other difference would be if the card uses a non-reference cooler. There are some nice non-reference coolers (like the one MSI uses), but you will pay a premium for those cards.

Hell no too expensive, a new one is about that price, and the 570 is the max really for 1080p

Agree. Unless you can get the used 580 for less than the 570, I would just go with the 570. Even that is more than you need.

okay, so what if the offer was, my GTX 460 i currently have for roughly 150, and 300 dollars?? lol is that a good deal??

So! I found a GTX 480 for 300, and i found a GTX 460 EVGA for 150, i have an MSI 460, will the EVGA and msi be compatible? lol i know it might be a stupid question.

I would also need to get a new mobo, so it would end up being around 100 +20 or so, then 150, so 250 something, for SLI 460's. and a new mobo, worth it?

oh and would be 650 PSU be enough?

No, SLI GTX 460s would not be worth it considering that you'll have to buy a new mobo. Do the GTX 580 trade for $300 instead.
