4770 in cross fire sucks for 1920X1200. Those 512 mb of vram aren't enough for that resolution.

for the most part its fine but there will be a 2 or 3 games that will easily exceed the 512mb at 1920 with the right settings.

If you use AA, it will exceed 512 mb in 90% of the games. Run without AA and 512 mb should be enough for 90% of the games.
Get 4890 and you'll surely have no issues with or without AA.

i got a 2900xt that will match it

Sure it is fine for you; but you are not the OP, asking over and over - begging someone to tell him it is OK to upgrade

4890 is a great upgrade. BtW, you would also like a 4890 for 1080p and you could play on high

i love both of mine

I'm not dropping $200 for the sake of playing one game!

I'm waiting it out for an affordable DX11 card and some new games that push the envelope.

it is not my fault you only play one game

i know that your GTS cannot play ANY dx10 games at even 'medium' at 1080p - nevermind any filtering

Please tell me about these DX10 games that I am missing. Please only tell me about ones that actually look significantly better under DX10.

I don't understand people paying their hard earned $$$ so they can play poorly coded games on a poorly coded build of DX for the sake of a *tiny* bit of eye candy.

Because its my money to spend ? But to be serious, i I dont like playing games with no AA or very little the jaggies just bother me. The 4890 should set me for a year, i dont buy video cards every day. $200 for a video card thast can last 1-2 years is not a bad investment..... I still use my 8800GTS 640 in my brothers computer and its still a good card can play Bioshock/COD4 and other games with decent frames while still being able to use some AA/AF and i bought that card 2 years ago.

Yea 512mb for that resolution and AA you wouldnt like how the game plays. . Im comming from experiance here. The 512mb 4850 i have is unable to play certain demanding games at 4xAA the fps just sinks and i get stutters (this is at 1680x1050), if you get 4770's get the 1gb versions. If you can even find 4770's lol.

I also used my 4890/4850 in crossfire so it wasnt the fact that the 4850 was slow either

not according to reviews. in fact its the opposite...90% of games are just fine with 512mb at 1920. the only games that go over it with highest settings and AA are Warhead, Far Cry 2, and Fallout 3 with high res texture mods. I personally wouldnt get 512mb for 1920 because those games are important to me but you are very much exaggerating.

Fallout 3 goes over 512 mb even with 2x-4x AA,without any uber textures modes. I know that for a fact going from severe stutter at 1680X1050 4x AA with 4870 512mb, in the outside areas, to complete smoothness with 8x AA on 4870 1gb.
GTA 4 is not satisfied even with 1 GB. He needs more and more and more. What the hell does it do with all that vram!?

There are many games that need more then 512 mb, once you blow out the AA box. Without it, you may escape with 512, even at 1920X1200, but that will surely don't last too much. 512 mb is so 2007 anyway. Go for 4890!

Yea same thing here, fallout3 starts stuttering even tho the fps is like 50 with 4xAA on 1680x1050 resolution without any texture mods on my 4850 512.... Its smooth as butter with my 4890 1GB on 8xAA

Fallout 3 has stutter no matter what. those stupid little hitches are there no matter what card your run. they happen every 10-15 seconds or so when walking around outside. it must be from loading the area because if you go right back in the same direction you came from it doesnt hitch.

Just a question, I also am tempted by a HD 4890, however, in Australia, the cheapest I could find them at is $321 dollars for the XFX version, ($254 USD). I currently have 2 HD 4830s and I play most games at 1680*1050. Should I upgrade or not, I could sell the 4830s for about 100 bucks each (AUD).

There's one for $299 AUD at pccasegear (best online e tailor in Aust IMO). Not sure about if it will be an upgrade or not, close call but a single GPU with comparative performance to a Crossfire/SLI setup the single GPU is always better- search google for some 4830 crossfire reviews.

I'm not talking about 10-15 seconds stutter. It's an all time stutter that happens in the open areas, on 512 mb videocards, with AA on.
