Well I havent built a computer in a WHILE, and I figured getting a bit of advice on some current stuff would move the process along.
Current Rig (Dont laugh too much...)
1.8ghz athlon xp/1 gig ddr/80 gig sata/geforce 3(i know i know)/8x dvd burner/450 watt ocz power supply/antec case
I think the power supply should be decent, looking for a dual core cpu like 1.5-1.8ghz or so (not really sure if I should go intel or amd...), motherboard with onboard everything but video, if it has video, no big deal. Would like one ide channel at least.
Video card, not looking for top of the line, something around $100-150 that is pci express, with at least 128mb ram, etc... I havent played too many modern games in a while and dont really care to at this point.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Oh and I have 4 gigs ( 2 2 gig dimms) of pc 6400 at my house already.
Should have mentioned....looking to spend like ~$100 on cpu, less than 100 on mobo...
1. Used for mild encoding of dvds, some games (just WoW and FFXI for now...), music, browsing, etc...
2. Less than 400 Budget
3. Buying parts from USA
4. No brand preference (Although for vid card ive had bad luck with sapphire...)
5. Using current case, psu, maybe the sata hd (long enough to get stuff off it anyway), 6 gigs of pc 6400 ram
6. Ive read some threads on this, but most of them seem to be aimed at more performance than i care for.
7. I might overclock, but its by NO means essential (havent in years...)
