Upgrading my monitor

I'm interested in upgrading my old ViewSonic E771 17" monitor for a Samsung 955DF, a flat 19 incher. I've read Anandtech's review and tought it was worth it. Now I need opinions. Is this monitor a step up compared to my current 4 year old monitor or should I buy something else? FYE, I live in Argentina, and computer hardware is really expensive here and LCD flat panels are out of the question.

Any comments will be very much appreciated. Bye.

it really depends on you

for example i look at my tv and then at my moniter and notice that white isn't any longer quite white

something like this may prompt you to swap moniters

basically, because it's a very simple, visual element or computer, if it looks good, it looks good. if you're not happy with it, maybe it's time to upgrade

Well, I've always wanted a flat screen, and I really need more screen real state. I need a bigger display, and this model looked quite good.

Cool. I've read a few reviews, and PC World said the text looked fuzzy and the colors washed out... Have you ever used a ViewSonic monitor? Can you compare your 955DF to a ViewSonic display?

Upgrade to a 21" monitor. You will not regret it.... how much do you have to spend? Cause you might be able to get a refurbished one for a good price at merkortech.com... I have a Dell P1110, that you could get here for $269 not where I got mine, but I am pretty sure other people in this forum have dealt with them before.

I personally owned the 955DF for about a year before I purchases my 19" LCD.

Excellent monitor for the price/quality.
You will really appreciate the difference from the 17" on your desktop view area.

Well, I really can't afford buying trough an online retailer in the states. Even if the price tag is below $300, I still have to pay a lot of shipping (around $5/lb) and about 50% in customs taxes, so I have to stick to local hardware stores. Since our country's economic breakdown a year ago, computer related stuff prices have gone trough the roof, and a 18" LCD is about $1500 US. So I've decided to go a cheaper 19 incher CRT. I don't have many choices here, and the 955DF seemed like a good one.

I've read somewhere that some units shipped with some geometry problems, is that true?

I received another offer today, so now I'm between the ViewSonic A90f and the Samsung 955DF. Similars specs, although the VS has more bandwith...

I used a Viewsonic E771 17" monitor for years upon years, and upgraded a couple of years ago to that Samsung SyncMaster 955DF monitor.

It has been one of the best monitor upgrades i've made, I'm actually going to get another one to replace a non-flat 19" (SyncMaster 900p). It's a real popular monitor (955DF) in that price/performance range, I would definately recommend it. I wouldn't hesitate to get an equal Viewsonic model though either.

Yeah, my ViewSonic has been so good so far that I would love to get another one. I'm going to the computer store this week, and try both monitors side by side and decide. I'll let you all know.

I'll be testing both monitors in a few days, and I wanted to know how to succesfully test them. I have found a free online monitor test tool here and I've prepared a CD with some hires images and a few DVDs.
Is there anything else I should look at?
