Looking to upgrade my rig - The current rig I have is on my sig. Im completely at a loss now with everything. IDK if Window Xp is still favored or is Vista now good? I left just went Vista was coming out and there was alot of trashing on Vista and alot of BS DRM baggage. I like my downloaded mp3 and I dont need a dictator OS telling me what I can play and not...
Also what is this Window 7 im reading about?
I havent used my rig in well over a year - I have been mobile with a laptop and I have finally came back to settle down for the time being. I enjoy maximum graphics in video gaiming (solo playing) and maximum frames per second in multiplayer.
I enjoy the best video quality in movies, streaming, downloads and to do anime music videos out of them.
Pretty much I like a high performance but I dont need the cutting edge, the latest n greatest. If possible im looking to tweak out what I got. I am okay if I have to change the following parts: MOBO, Processor, Vid Card, Sound Card. IDK how good my Rams are in todays standard - I know it was one of the top notch in 2005 and overclocked or something on the latency 1-2-1-2 whatever it was... That is all. Thank you in advance

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Gaming (CoD4, Fallout3, FEAR 2 any latest game that intrigues me, both online/offline) - Watching Movies/TV shows (Streaming, download or HD content maybe) - Video Editing (Anime Music Videos and other misc small projects) - Photoshop

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

Willing to spend about 300 min 500 max on upgrades excluding monitor if that isnt HD capable

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

um wherever the cheapest...

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

Since im upgrading and not getting an entire new rig - whatever is compatible to mine - if at all - ATI/AMD/Nvidia are ok... Last time Intel was a bad thing, unless they improved.. im for whatever gives less trouble, headaches and BS

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

Im asking you guys whats a keeper and what needs to be upgraded

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

trying to read several stuff but it's so alien now to me since I havent kept up with the lingo, acronyms, model coding (IE: GT, XGT, FPW, l2, l3, l4, dual, quad core..)

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Depends on the processor if im upgrading and if there is an exsisting guide to that processor

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.

1900x1200

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?

when I get the chance

happy medium's build is a very nice mid level build. i have been recommending the phenom 2 x4's on newegg for their combo discounts, though. 945 has some almost free mobos-

4870 1gb is a nice card, though if you switched to ddr2 and an am2+ board you could probably afford a 4890.

you might consider a new psu. if you 500w fsp is three years old, it could have issues with a big upgrade. not super likely, but possibe.
