upgrading video cards??

right now i have Nvidia Geforce4 mx440 with agp8x PCI
Im looking to get something better for around $60-$90

I have an intel celeron 2.0 GHZ 752 mb of ram....thanks for any help you guys can give me i know i cant get the best cards for that price
i could get a ati 9000 64mb for $50 but i dont know if thats better

9000's are ok, 9600 np would be a solid upgrade

You can get a used 9500 Pro for that, look around in the for sale/trade forums.

So would the 9000 be much better than my geforce?

The 9600's are great bargain cards. I believe the 9000's aren't even 8x.

not really . . . it's a (3 year old) dx8 card and will have trouble with the latest games.

What's the rest of your system like and what games do you play?

i play nba live 2004
call of duty, black hawk down, just got farcry and they have all my settings on low kind of why i want a better card
hmmmm....not sure what else i could tell you about my comp

Yeah, that 8500 is good, it performs a little slower than a TI 4200. But it's so much better than a 9000.
If you can take a used card, go check for a 9500 Pro for around 90 bucks

An 8500/9100 with 128mb of memory would be an improvement, and would be cheap. If you could find a Ti4200, that would also be a good way to go. I don't know if you could find a used 9500 pro that cheaply though. Perhaps on eBay.

definitely get yourself a 9500pro, 9600 or 9600pro. if you get the 9500pro and if you feel up to it, you can download the omega drivers and unlock the other 4 pipelines for a major boost in performance

i am a rookie for sure i have no idea what pipelines mean

Agreed - this is a celly 2gig system, it doesn't need dx9 support because it can't handle dx9 games anyway. The Ti4200 will handle anything pre-dx9 with ease.

i installed it and iit worked untill i installed the drivers
now the screen is srambled and it flickers
anyone have any idea what i can do
support is closed for the day
