Upselling Fast Food...lmao!

Cracks me up when you go to McDonalds, King, Taco Hell that everytime you go to the drive through, they always say some BS, like

"Welcome to Taco Bell, would you like to try our 15 soft taco's with extra sauce for just $5.99, and you can add an order of cinnamon twists for just .99 extra"

woohoo!...

Am I the only one that finds that annoying?

It's retail sales. One of the cornerstone principals of sales is the upsale.

Fast food was founded on the science of selling.
You would be amazed how many people are likely to buy that cinnamon twist for $1 or humungasize their order for 80 cents.

Does it bother me? Asking those questions helps drive profit which contributes to low prices. As long as I can continue to get a Big N Tasty for $1, they can ask me to upsell all they want.

They are forced to say things like, "Do you want fries with that?" even if you are only buying ice cream. (Since they make their money on fries and drinks.) It's just part of their operations. I know it's pretty stupid, but that's just how McDs wants to treat its front-line employees. They'd get fired if they didn't ask such questions.

It may be annoying, but the talking gas pumps are the worst to me. I can't stand them!

I dunno why McD's even sells the regular size, I dunno anyone who doesn't supersize that with any of there meals.

I don't find it annoying at all! It just reminds me of a waiter/waitress at a nice resteraunt telling you the special of the day when he/she first comes to your table. They usually say something like "Welcome to Yada Yada! My name is Blah Blah. I will be your waiter/waitress tonight. Our specials for the evening are .... ". Do you find that annoying also? I really see no difference between the two other than the local.

I do, however, get a little irritated when they ask me if I want fries or something else if I haven't ordered them. If I had wanted french fries I would have ordered them.

So your one of those people who just order a drink. What is wrong with you? That drink is $1.19 and costs about 7 cents with the cup and ice. (for a wendy's biggie size anyway) It is cold out, stop at your local grocery store and pickup a case of pop and store it in your vehicle. On extreamly cold days, take it out. Most pop will not freeze till about 20 degrees F because of the carbination. I keep a case in my truck at all times, because I am a cheap bastard.

I work at Papa John's, and I am REQUIRED to say "Thank you for calling Papa John's on 23rd St, this is Ryan, Would you like to try a large 1 topping pizza with your choice of a side for only $13.99". If I don't, my job could be in jeopardy.

at the taco bell by my house, if you go through the drive thru, expect to wait 5 minutes before even getting to place an order...they say so much stuff before they give you the opportunity to say that all you want is water

I used to work at wendy's and whenever I got the pleasure of being the drive though cashieer/order taker, I always used this line, "Welcome to the wonderful world of Wendy's. My name is dave, and I will be your order taker for this evening. We have a regular price special on frys tonight. Get a Biggie Fry for only 99 cents with every purchase!" (this was '97, so they were 99 cents at that time)

Yes, I was wierd. But they were always laughing when they got to the window. I was a total joker. It was great!

Yeah, I worked at Arby's and McDonald's a long time ago. You've just got to make people laugh if you don't want to go crazy. Humorless, lame-ass, "company man" managers just loved me.
