*URGENT* External Hard Drive HELP!!!

So i was working on my assignment today and my computer encountered some sort of error (something along the lines of DrWatson Debugger) so do a hard reset of my computer. anyways, i do all this with my external hard drive plugged in. when i go back to windows i go to my external hard drive and EVERYTHING IS GONE!!! NOTHING IS THERE!!! All my school work, movies, music, photos, isnt there anymore! all there is is an unknown file that is 0kb. However, when i go to my computer, it detects my external hard drive, the storage amount, as well as the amount left. i was wondering if any fellow anandtechers could PLEASE help me, I was working on a big assignment that was on my external hard drive and its GONE NOW. :brokenheart::frown::frown:
P.S. i also tried opening the file with explorer.exe, that didnt help :\.

All you have to do is restore from backup.

You do have backups, right? And working copies in other places both on the internet and physically?

A professional data recovery company may be able to help you but prepare for them to screw you by price.

You could always unplug the drive and try it in another computer. Or use Linux to view the drive contents. Sounds like you're desperate anyway.

i am very desperate... this was suppose to be my backup, but then i got lazy and just used it mainly for school work...
the worst part is, my assignment is due tomrrow and all my work is on that drive!
